Hi Foggers, wanted to share my project I made. Its an end grain chess board made with black walnut, maple, and curly maple. I made a small base cabinet underneath for the game pieces. I had a buddy CNC the inlays for the number and letters. The small base cabinet uses lock miter for the corners. The playing squares are 2" square and the top is 16" overall.

That’s really nice work.  What finish did you use?  The figure in the curly maple looks alive.  What type of pieces will you use?

I foam brushed on Minwax spar urethane clear gloss. The chess board is actually made for a client. Thanks.

Nice job... [thumbs up]  and I love the curly maple. How thick are the inlays?

The inlays started out 1/4”, I left it 1/16” proud so I can plane them down flush. So, 3/16” is the thickness.
