Many of the FOG members complained about the CMS fence not being sturdy enough. Me too. I found a way of enhancing its sturdiness considerably and it took only one hour to complete.
I took a Incra track I had no other use for and put it on top of the fence. In order to align the front with the original fence, I put 2mm thick aluminum in the back of the incra track, fixed with sliding nuts to the incra track. It then flushes perfectly with the front of the festool fence.
The only permanent modification of the festool fence were three threads that I created in order to fix the incra track. Voila.
For short and heavy pieces where the bending of the fence is more critical I put an auxiliary CMS clamp in front of the fence then the fence gets rock solid, but even without the clamp, the flexing of the fence becomes negligible.
It is great fun to use the sliding table and get 5 cut results less then 2 arc minutes and yet stay mobile if necessary.
I would strongly recommend this to anybody who is disappointed by the flimsy festool CMS fence.
