Entrance hall and stair renovation.

Another semi-detached house built in the 60's. The owners admit to a little Laurence Llewellyn moment, TV home decorating programme.

Ok I only remembered to take before pic week into the job. So the green mdf on the right is the start of my panelling and i'd takken the sheen/shine out of the orange wall paint with the ROB. I took out an odd door frame in the passage upstairs and made into ecliptic arch with plasterboard and skim. Both ceilings upstairs and down stairs where cracked so over-boarded and skim those.

Replaced with UPVC door, sacrilege on a woodwork forum. [tongue]

Mdf panel follows through in hall with radiator cover to match.

I replaced two doors leading off the hall downstairs with oak veneer doors.

Changed 5 doors upstairs with 6 panel white doors. All architrave, skirting and fan lights where replaced.  

I did all the decorating on this job as well and it was definitely the longest/hardest bit.  [eek]
On a side note I did that bathroom for them last year.

Here we go again.
Front door fitted. Had a job getting upvc manufacturer to make what i want, they just want you to pick one out catolugue. I had to do a full scale drawing of lead work and sign as they where sure it'd look sh*t.

So what's the jury think?

Back to woodwork bits.
This balustrade is all bought of the shelf stuff. The wood is Hemlock. Spindles are 32mm square with flute running full length on all four sides. The newels are the existing ones just fluted in situ with 1010.

The first pic is a hall leading to bedroom over garage extension,no extension not by me. Ceiling reboarded and skimmed, walls skimmed.
The customer went out looking for light fittings, I think she came up trumps with these which I fitted.

I presume it is the moisture resistant mdf, thus why it is green.  Nice work Alex.  On thing though, the handrail on the left going up the stair.  It looks like it has just been cut square ?  I normally shape the ends to match the side profile of the handrail if you know what i mean.  If you imagine that the machine that shaped the sides did the ends also.  If you wanted to get tricky you could have cut it plumb, then put the shape into it.  It just gives it that bit extra  [smile]

I noticed the same thing, it looks a bit out of place. But overall it's a big improvement so I imagine the client is happy. Nice job. [thumbs up]

Thanks, yes the MDF is the moisterer resistant stuff most of it comes green. I cut it all from sheet material then moulded. The base/skirting and head bit is 18mm with the uprights been 12mm mdf. The green can be a right pain to paint over but doesn't fluff so bad on the machined edges.
Right Woodguy and Brice, I pulled an off cut of the handrail out today to see if i could knock up/practice what your suggesting. Now i've done mope stick hand rail and fusions round handrail with plumb rounded finish but never moulded. So here's a pic of the moulding can you help? Please put some of your pics on so I can see what you mean. [popcorn]

Alex, there's a couple of things I would have looked at. First is a simple plumb cut on the end, second is a piece mitered to have short horizontal piece on the end.

Ok the plumb cut work out no good on off cut, to sharp on the bottom.  I'm liking the mitre with short horizontal combined with Harry's mitred return to wall would be puuuurfect. [thumbs up]

Back to posting pics. Space under stairs. Ceiling bent so had to remove where box's are going.

I used exterior far eastern ply for the drawer unit box's, assembled on site as to heavy to move.

The box's are 610mm wide x 805mm deep. The runners are 700mm heavy duty full extension touch to open.You'll no doubt notice bottom base board/shelf is screwed to battens this is so once units are in place I could have them in and out. The drawers are a full 800mm deep so leveled and rawl bolted units to concrete floor.
Fixed runners in with laser level. Stanley cl2 you can see it one of the pics, works brilliant ;D

Fitted doors Saturday morning just popped home to get the camera 5 min drive and customers had moved back in. [big grin]

I was going to try get one of those touch to open latch for door but then used sprung hinges. So now I'm going fit a rope tasle handle if I ever find one ;D

The space saving use under the staircase is fantastic. With 6 kids here I feel like doing that to my staircase right now! Dam shoes all over the place, mostly in the dogs crate!

Really nice job under the stair, the client must be stoked.  It looks like you have put quite a bit of time in on that job.  One to be proud of i would say.

Some nice suggestions for handrails there but none like what i was meaning.  I will see if i can find one on my puter, if not i will get a cutting of handrail & shape it then post pics.

I think these represent the options so far.
If the image is clear enough, autocad to pdf seems not to want to play well today.
