ER collet and nut advice

Thinking about swapping the stock collet and nut on my Dewalt 611 for an ER style rig.
Any thoughts?  [member=44099]Cheese[/member] i know you have mentioned Er20 collets before.

I only need a 1/4 inch one. Not a lot price difference between the .0004 and the .0001 runout ones.

Ron, I really don't have any experience with the ER series collets. I have an older Atlas 618 metal lathe and the original collets for it are extremely difficult to find and extremely expensive. My thought was to adapt modern ER series collets to work in the Atlas lathe headstock...sorry, that's the extent of my knowledge.  [tongue]

Are you having a runout issue with the Dewalt?  I'd expect you to not gain a lot by changing collets if you're strictly using it for wood projects unless everything is just plain worn out.

If machining aluminum, soft metals or plastics, then you would probably notice a difference in collet quality.
