ETS 125/3 EQ power surging problem

Hey folks, my 125 just started surging the power, when I put any regular amount of pressure on it it turns down to like level 2-3, then surges back up when I remove it from the piece. Not a good deal, have a lot of sanding to do right now :(

Anyone ever dealt with this surging? Think I'm still within a year here...

This is the ETS EC?  I have the same issue. I've got to find a moment to send it in.

Oops! Yes, ETS EC 125/3 EQ.

So many letters, forgot a couple. Darn, so I'm not the only one I see? How many others? Is this a known thing?

That's a built in feature, yo.
If you push too hard, the internal electronics will detect it
and adjust the torque/speed so that you don't burn out the motor.
Normally, it's constantly monitoring
the sanding situation and adjusting the torque/speed
so that you get consistent performance.

You should definitely notice it change when you move
from flat stock to a thin edge, or any time you have it on without resistance.

EDIT: whoops, misread your post.  You said regular amount of pressure.  Yeah, that definitely sounds like
the opposite of what it's supposed to do.

This is becoming a bit disturbing with the EC sanders.  Seem to be more and more problems/failures being talked about around here.  [scared]

Mine failed within 6mo. of very lite use.

What did it do again?  I'm in the middle of a bunch of sanding right now with mine, and just wanted to hear of any failures to be wary of,,,, [sad]

The only failure I've had was user error (managed to put the pad on canted and sand away).  I've not been nice to any of my sanders and the ec has been flawless.

There have been several reports of the EC sander's electronic boards giving up the ghost.  Mine stopped working completely.

As others have said, sounds like the electronic speed regulation has gotten overly sensitive on yours.  On my EC 150/5, the speed will sometimes drop when significant portions of the pad are off edge for am extended period of time, but it's working as it's supposed to there.  Yours is definitely not operating as it should, and so I would send it back to service.
