Hi,

I got an Festool ETS 125 EQ for few years now and I dont use time to time. Today, I use it for dozens of minutes and turn it off, when I turn it on again I immediately notice a change, it's no lonter the same power, at max it seems to now run at half. I have open it, nothing special, nothing but regulary sparkles at contacts motors, the motor turn freely, the vario speed still works but now not at max. Any ideas ?

Thanks !

Fred

Sounds exactly like what happened to my rts400 and my Kapex. Pretty sure your motors shot, there's been a lot of that going around.

thanks for your post, was afraid to read something like that. If it's the case, it's a big disapointment, In total, this 125 has been used 4 of 5 months it if was used by a contractor.

Could be the motor or the electronics. It sounds serious. Better have Festool look at it.

Are you sure the cord was locked in place? That's where I would start. Plug it into another receptacle, see if it works.

I have 2 ETS 125's, both over 3 years old and run at least 15 hours a week.

Hi, thanks for all your answers. Yes, I have changed the cable, I will give an other try but I'm pretty sure, it's not that. Just contacted the support, it may cost around 100 to 120 euros to change the motor (rotor+stator) if it's it, nearly the price of a Makita. The festool, brand new cost around 330 euros. I will have to choose. The motor turn freely without power, but it's not enough to guess what it is.

Some news, i have open the ETS, vaccuum the interior, try again few minutes, I notice that the temp goes high very fast, so, probably not the electronic, more likely the motor. Got to send it back to the repair service.

Thanks for your post Festoolfootstool, they seems to be good according to the "normal" sparkle visible, the problem to have access to those parts to be perfectly sure, seems to be be tricky to remove all parts to check. I haven't found a document on the way to do it.

Correction, found a video may be it will help someone one day :

Mine seems to be good, the sander has really a small amount of hours, even if its a 2006 model. Even no dust in it.

Yes definitely the motor. I had this too with two of these sanders I bought broken from a painter. They became too hot to touch within half a minute so I think the rotor just vibrates in place instead of rotating as it should, so the cooling fan can't do its work. They told me the field coils needed to be replaced.

Thanks Alex, I'm surprised this can happen on a "like new" machine without abuse, but that's life, it will go back to Festool Service.

Hi,

Finally got information from festool service. The bill to repair the machine is 207 euros, a new one cost 334. I might give up and go for an other brand. I'm really disappointed. Wanted to give you the end of the story. I hope my other festool machine will not played the same bad trick. I got Domino, Kapex, CTL26, Rotex, OF1400, TS55... all with light use.

Thanks for your help on this post !

Fred

I don't blame you, I've had a $100 bosch orbital for 10 years without a single hiccup.

3 years and the motor goes is not acceptable for a high end tool of any sort...
