Bought one from a dealer in Utah. Wouldn’t stay on longer than 15 seconds. Sent back for a refund. Bought another from a dealer in Ohio. Started shutting off after 100 lineal feet of sanding wood floor wall edges. Sent back for a refund. What’s up? My $60 Dewalt doesn’t have these problems. I doubt I will buy a third unless this problem is addressed.

The ETS EC's have a little tiny clear spot on the dust port that detect if a hose is attached. If you do not have the hose pushed on and locked on all the way, it may have the tendency to slip back, allowing the photosensor in that clear window to see light and assume your hose has slipped off. This is to prevent you from being able to sand without proper dust extraction, but can be frustrating if you aren't aware of the feature. You can disable the feature if you want through a sequence that can be found in the manual.

You guys are right. I didn’t read the manual. I have an Ets 150 eq and just assumed it worked like the ec. Thanks for the feed back. I may buy another in the future but frankly my Dewalt 5” orbital does all that I need for floor sanding so I may stick with that tool.

I read the manual and the dust hose signal is deactivated unless one turns it on. I did not turn it on so these two orbitals I bought and returned were defective or they are just under engineered for my use. I need to run it on high speed for up to 2-3 hours on large floor refinishing jobs with 80g sandpaper. This tool cannot handle that load apparently. My 2nd ec stopped after less than 100 feet. I won’t by buying another. My $60 Dewalt can run all day.

Sounds to me you'd be better off with a Rotex 150, that sander does a lot better with floors.
I bought all three rotex’s last month for a staircase refinish. I will find other uses I assume. I also have an ets 150/5 eq plus orbital that will run for long periods. Not brushless. It’s problem is it has a lower rpm vs the Dewalt or the Rigid so it is slow in that regard. The Festool has low vibration probably due to the lower rpm. The Festool spends its time sitting on a table in my garage. I have it up for sale.

You should try the Rotex on your floors then. First in the geared aggressive mode for the rough work, and then switch over to the fine random orbit mode to finish up. Or whatever suits you.
The Rotex can take a beating. First week I had mine I dropped it 3 meters down the stairs, not a scratch on it. Now, 12 years later it is still going strong and never required maintenance. I don't abuse my tools, but I don't spare them either. Lately it's been showered in tons of drywall dust, but it just doesn't care.

As per Festool this is a known issue on the ETS EC sanders and they are trying to figure out the cause I guess. I currently have my ETS EC 125/3 sander with their warranty department as well.
