Hey FOG, just got an ETS EC 125/3 from the reconditioned site, and I'm having no luck getting this tool to function. I press the power button and it'll orbit a few times while making some clicking noises nothing else. I re-read the manual and searched the forums, and tried to turn off the extractor signal but my problem is that there is no beeping to give me indications.

From the manual, I switch on the power tool briefly so it begins to orbit a few times, but then immediately let go and repressed and held the power button. The tool is supposed to beep here but I don't hear anything even after holding it from various time frames (1 second all the way to 15 seconds). I tried turning the speed control to both end positions regardless but no luck on beeping. Using the FOG search function, I got to this post (http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-how-to/trouble-setting-up-new-ets-ec-1253-sander-with-ct-sensing/) and reviewed the video on reply #4. Again, followed the given instructions but no beeping.

For good measure, I used my domino's power cable (and vice versa, domino turned on) and also used my shop vac with a Rockler small hose adapter (works for the domino in extracting wood chips), but the tool did not turn on. Has anyone experienced this or have anymore ideas before I call Festool tomorrow? Thanks for looking.

I’m a little confused by your post. Have you tried not plugging the sander into your vacuum but instead directly into a normal wall plug. Just to see if the sander works properly?

I am confused by the references to the beeping. Are you talking about hooking up a Bluetooth remote to your vac?

In order to turn the sander on all you should have to do is plug it into an appropriate power source and depress the square green button once and let it go. First let’s see if the sander works on it’s own before we integrate it with a Festool vacuum / dust extractor.

Also, make sure that the plug-it cord is properly connected to the tool and then twist the connector until it is fully locked in position.

Ok, I just pulled out my manual and I do see the references to the extractor signal, the beeps, etc.. Honestly I don’t remember having to do any of that. You might need to call FT after all.

Did you connected it to a vac?

Maybe I'm wrong but I remember some sander of Festool has a protection built in it doesn't work if not connected to a vac.

7.3 Extractor signal
The electronic extractor signal detects whether an extractor hose is connected at the power tool. Upon activation, the power tool can only be switched on with a connected extractor hose.

// UPDATE : sorry already mentioned by others  :-[

My original post was a bit sloppy so here are the different things I tried:

1. Plug in power cord, twist, and turn on - sander turns on for a few seconds at reduced speed and turns off within 2 seconds
2. Use a different power cord , twist, and turn on - sander turns on for a few seconds at reduced speed and turns off within 2 seconds
3. Test power cord that came with sander on domino - domino worked fine
4. Plug in power cord, twist, attach shop vac - sander turns on for a few seconds at reduced speed and turns off within 2 seconds
5. Try to turn off extractor signal detector (steps noted in my original post) - no beeping sound after the second power push OR after changing power level from 6 -> 1 -> 6. Both manual and video states that there should be a beep, and if you follow the link to the other FOG thread on reply #4's video @ 6:28 you can hear the beeps which I do not hear

Better call Festool service. They can best help you on the phone run through a series of tests with the sander to determine of you are the one doing something wrong or if it is the sander.
