ETS EC just died

I bought the sander last December and have had no problems. Today I went to sand a shelf I was making and when I pushed the start button the sander made a raspy peeping sound for about two  seconds and stopped. The disk never started. Now that is all it will do. I registered the sander on line 0n 12-25-15 and when I go on line I get a message that my E-mail was never registered. Will call Festool on Tue. but is there something I am missing in starting the sander?

Festool will take care of you.  Call on Tuesday and forget abut auto email responses.  You tool is obviously under the warranty period and registration is not required for a warranty.

Don't worry about the registration. It's definitely still under warranty. We'll get you back up and running. Please let me know if you need any help on this or run in to any problems.

      I remember this from a Peter Parfitt review I watched, you can change settings on this sander and it will not turn on (it just beeps like yours) unless it's hooked to the vacuum and you could have accidently done that!  Make sure you are connected to your vacuum, if this makes it work look in your owners manual on how to change it back.  Hope this fixes your problem,  good luck!

My ETS EC does the "opposite."  My current set-up uses a Lee Valley auto-switch for a shop vac and Oneida cyclone.  If I leave the sander plugged in, but off, it will trip the vacuum on after a couple hours.  Don't know if others have had that experience or if it's something to be concerned about.  This is a great sander.  I've sold two other friends on EC sanders.  They are so light and powerful!

The ETS EC sanders will alert you if the dust extractor hose becomes disconnected. They will shut down, beep and vibrate if the hose slips off. That way, you won’t inadvertently create a cloud of dust and not know it’s happening. Sound like this could be the case.

Look at the LEDs to verify, or to test, just connect an extraction hose. If it is that, and you don't want to have it set that way, the attached tells you how to change it if you don't have your manual handy.

Thanks to all who have tried to help, I went through the "switching the extractor signal" and the sander did not respond.I am hooked up to a CT 26. The led lights are dead. Will call Festool on Tue.

Here is an update on the ETS EC. I sent the sander to Festool under the warranty ( they made it easy with a printed UPS label) and I had it back within 5 days.The repair card said they replaced/repaired 2 Electronic Modules and and performed an electrical safety test. Under "other" they wrote in "apron" whatever that means. It may all be in my head but the sander seems to run smoother,besides that it is working as intended. Good job Festool!

I must say I was surprised forthismvery reason when I saw this feature of the sander on Peter p's video.  Then I guessed it must be a consideration for the auto industry, where is guess sanding without the extraction for a few seconds too long might be a more expensive mistake than the average wood guy would suffer?
