Euro pricing vs. US Pricing

Reading about all the products NAINA makes me wonder what the pricing is like across the European countries. Is it all the same or does it vary from country to country and if so, who is the cheapest and which is the most expensive? Worldwide, is US pricing the best? Is it because of the volume or because we don't include VAT?

You are opening a hornet's nest with this question.

Festool are buying market in the US at the cost of the rest of the world (note - rest of world - more than US and Europe).

Various country specifics, volumes, transport costs and duties impact prices - there's a real cost to stock and support extended ranges and it's obviously more expensive if you're not a wholly owned Festool operation.

It'd be interesting to see if the US would stomach higher prices for higher featured products and a greater range.

Let the games begin ...

As far as I know I think UK is one of the cheapest in europe!   Cus my regularl dealer says he ships a lot of festool tools to varies parts in Europe because they tell him it's cheaper to get it from him then in their own country!

UK is cheap and so is ebay in Germany in many cases. I'm guessing currency fluctuations plays a part in it as well. I suspect JMB's dealer, when shipping abroad, ships to non-euro countries, but I could be wrong.

Currently Germany seems to be the cheapest place in Europe with the current € to £ exchange rate. Last year when the £ was cheap it was reversed. Nordic countries pay similar extortion prices like our Aussie friends so even with shipping it's cheaper to mail order from central Europe.

England used to be cheapest place of all Europe by far but with the current pound to euro conversion that difference is all gone. For the rest of mainland Europe the price is more or less the same. Only the scandinavian countries pay quite a bit more, so they're the most expensive now.

What reiska said, scandinavian countries pay extortion prices, but i think maybe Norway is the most expensive. If i get the 33 ish % discount (that for some reason almost everyone gets) from the only ( big) dealer in norway who has a decent supply, it is still cheaper to buy from uk ink. shipping costs.
Example: festool of1010. Uk price for me (ex vat) is 340 ish pounds plus 25 shipping + 25% vat - 450
Norwegian price is 740 pounds, but most get the 33% discount (why the frakk price it that high to start with) which brings it down to 494

This high pricing covers all the festool tools available in norway. Ok, norway is more expensive to begin with, but the pricing on festool is absurdly high compared to pricing on bosch, dewalt ect..

So yeah, initialy we are being extorted because of tase :p

Norwegian prices are heavily distorted by the "resource curse" of offshore oil.  The International Monetary Fund's 2012 estimates of per-capita gross domestic product (total value of all goods and services produced in a country divided by the population) are, for Norway, $96,591 and for the UK  $39,604.  Even looking at purchasing-power parity GDP estimates, Norway is something like $55,000 while the UK is something like $35,000.

Bottom line: Living is good in Norway even though the sticker prices are high.

Please be careful not to turn this into a heated debate or get too political with your comments or the thread will be locked. Thank you.

Yeah, CDM, you are right about that, we even have a 5 year "waranty" that thrumps out all normal waranties, but as i stated the festool pricing is even more distorted. Festool tools are more expensive to begin with, but becuase there is only one big reseller in norway they charge a premium.
If the pricing was minus the 33% they give if you ask, i would have been "happy", but since they set the sticker price soooo high, just to give the discount, the people that dont know about the discount, or dont get it, pay way to much! it is like a car dealer!

In generel my beef is with the reseller.

Its the same with many products, like cars. You have to remember that there are some real reasons behind this. Duties and taxes vary from country to country and  cost of sales vary greatly.

But in the case of the USA, just be very happy you are living in the cheapest country to buy festool. I was in a Belgium dealer 3 weeks ago, the prices are just insane!

On a positivish note:

At least Festools seem to hold their value ridiculously well - just gave up on the bidding for a three month old CTL 26 E AC that hadn't even been registered for the extended warranty when the bid went to 88% of new price (581€ was the winning bid vs. 651€ new price)...

I was even prepared to pay a lot more than the usual rule-of-thumb 50% max for used ware just because its Festool, but almost 90% of new price - c'mon!  [eek]

I guess I'll just have to mail order one from Germany and get full warranty & the freebie dust bag that comes with the DC for the extra 65€ (postage from Germany is 5€ cheaper than internal shipping within Finland).  [doh]

If you send them flowers and chocolate they will.

Well, JMB - I had my OF1400 happily delivered from the UK last summer with no problems, so I guess all resellers don't mind shipping abroad...

There are several countries in Europe, that are still outside the Euro-zone, like Norway, Sweden and the UK.. I'm sorry I wasn't clear, but I mean countries outside europe.

Ah, had a hard time understanding JMB's accent [tongue] and associating that with some other UK dealers thatI have asked who refuse to ship outside of the British Isles [dead horse] I landed on the conclusion that Festool is prohibiting UK resellers to ship outside of the British Isles.

So yes, Finland is still part of Europe and the Euro Zone - more so than the UK itself actually - and I guess you are allowed to ship to us if your dealers want to deal with international shipping [thumbs up]

I'm pretty sure it would be illegal for Festool to try to restrict dealers from shipping anywhere within EU, as long as the dealer is operating within the EU. It's one of the basic principles of the EU...

Individual dealers otoh are free to pick and choose their customers based on almost whatever criteria they so desire, including geographical location.

My dealer said he will ship any where festool will allow how to ship to!
