today i was fitting a oak door for some new clients rolled up in my freshly washed van clean clothes made some good first impressions [smile]

get the door set up in the bathroom to have the head cut to suit the frame rail on, ts55 hooked up to a mini and off i go. gets to the end of the cut and theres dust flying everywere setting off the smoke alarm [sad] the HO came to see what was going on and saw all the dust floating down the hallway [crying] i felt stupid.

i didnt think about checking the vac, i hooked up the ehl65 got 1/3 of the way up the door and it was spewing shavings took the hose off and it was crammed full of shavings, looked at the bag and it was empty so pulled the hose from the vac and it was compact solid in the top of the mini with nothing other than shavings blocking it so dont know how it happened any idea? has yours done the same

on the upside they want me to fit another 2 next week  [cool]

I assume the chips/shavings from the planer clogged the vac hose, I think you'll get that from time to time.  If you're using the D27 hose you'll get that every time.

Yup, have had exactly the same experience of blocked 27mm hose with the ELH65.

In my experience the Festool kit that produces a lot of high volume waste like the planers, bigger routers etc need to be linked to a 36mm hose to extract efficiently.

If you only have a Mini extractor I don't know if that will take a 36mm hose, you may have to consider jumping to a CTL26 although they too come as standard with a 27mm hose, so you will need to get a 36mm hose anyway.

But if you do buy the tradesmans cleaning kit, you get a 36mm hose and all the metal hoover attachments to clean up your clients house with!! ;D

While using a planer hooked up to the CT22.... We filled the bag and the hose(27mm) and then had chips coming out the planer.  We now check more often when using things that produce big chips...

Cheers,
Steve

Mini also has that 90 degree bend connector where it plugs into the vac. I swapped mine for straight shot hose, no problems.

ive used the ts55 a few times for shooting doors but i find the ehl has better dust extraction than the ts55, so now i tend to use the 55 for top and bottom cuts and plane the sides, i think i need to try and use the 55 more as you can set the saw a few degree for the leading edge which will be quicker

A few times the 90 degree connector to the MINI blocked. Most of the time something thin and long, like a big splinter, was the starter of a building up of sawdust and formed a solid block in the end. Some prodding and tapping the connector was sufficient to unblock it. When the bag is 3/4 filled there is also a chance of a build up below the connector and it grows into the connector until it is fully blocked. Shaking the bag and some prodding will cure it.

I doubt the ts will be quicker, you'll be cutting along the grain, two passes with a planer will be quicker than one with the ts55. (I do have a bevelguide on my planers)

About filling the hose,we did that last week with the ct22 (also planing doors), and it lead to the first time i cut open a bag and taped it back shut (I only had the spare bags for the ctl26 with me because the ct22 normally stays home with a boom arm attached)

I did it once with my CT22 filled my hose but it was because my bag was full though but it keeps on sucking till it fills the hose!  Man its a right pain in the bottom to empty the hose its all compact I end up jst spinning the hose like a windmill lol!

lol!  Well thats what I did use a stick but realised I was just compacting all the saw dust more making it hard to push it out on the other end so I just started doing the windmill lol!  Yes it was fun and dusty! I was hoping once it all cleared it was going to make a noise like them things you get at a show or something and you spin them to make a sound lol lol

i tried a brush handle too [huh]
i held the hose in the centre and jiggled it about so it came out of both ends

think i need to get a bigger hose that will plug in straight get rid of the bend. looking at hose prices the tradesman cleaning set is only £50 more than just the hose and you get a sys4 t loc and metal vac poles, and i can put my plastic cleaning set on ebay and the t-loc and i'll be a winner [tongue]

JMB, you're doing better than me, I do this several times a year. [embarassed]

Last week I had the bag come loose after being 3/4 full, the vac fill up solid, and the hose clog all at the same time.  ARGGH!  Forty minutes later, clean filters, new bag, clean hose, new vocabulary  [big grin].
