Everything you wanted to know about Plug-Its conversions (USA Version)

I have so many non-plug-it tools that I just don’t fret it. I love my RAS and it saves so much time compared to anything else for what it does that the extra effort is worth it to me. That said, I do like going cordless when I have the right tool, but at my age and for the limited time in the shop I am probably not a good sales target to switch everything over.  [unsure]

It only really bothers me with tools that A) come in systainers and B) require dust extraction. The long corded tools that get shoved in systainers are enough to make me not want to get them out. And if it requires dust extraction, then I want to use a plug it so the cord isn't dangling around in addition to the vacuum hose.

My Bosch jigsaw doesn't get hooked up to extraction so I don't really care about the cord on that. I do wish it was cordless though.

Gotta love these 3d printers

clever and resourceful but.............a standard plug-it inlet from EKAT is going to be cheaper and better.  That extension is going to be prone to breakage.

That was also my thought exactly, with some of the best manufacturing & molding processes/techniques in the world, Festool still has seen it’s fair share of Plug-it failures over the years. A newbie with a 3D printer will have a pretty rough go of it.

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] ,  sure Festool has had some failures, but then I can also say that I suspect a portion of what has been read here could also be possibly failures caused by non-fully rotated locking rings.  It happens, to all of us.

My only other regret is I didn't order two of these plug it conversions. Amazon.de no longer carries them. I'm going to convert my Zeta P2 over next. Toolcurve had 2 (now 1) in stock but about $20 more than what I paid for the first one.

Matt

Thanks for this.  I didnt think these were available any longer.  I just scooped up the last one from tool curve for my DDF40.  Its the only tool I use on a regular basis that doesnt have a plug it cord.  Which required me to have to swap the cord out every time.  My Festool sanders and ddf40 are my most used corded tools.  This will make a big difference.  [thanks]

Hi, the sockets are easy to get the socket holders are the prize here. Several are  now 3d printed, with whip end or not. The one posted in vid attaches w/o exposed cable.

Do you have links for good spot to buy both the socket and the socket housing?

I've done this to a TON of tools.  I just buy the socket from EKAT, and epoxy it into the factory handle on whatever I'm working on.  Haven't found one yet that needed much fiddling.

I even put one on a Harbor Freight angle grinder.....  [poke]

Thanks I already ordered one with the pigtail. Im looking forward to it.  I think my Makita track saw is the only other thing that would be useful to convert. However it has been out of its case in I dont know how long but the ddf40 will be a big plus since I use it the most.

Ok, so my pigtail came today and it felt like Christmas morning, slapped it in the ol' DDF40 and then..... No fitty.  :'(  So what's the deal here.  I checked all my extra cords and they all look the same.

You got the high-amp socket, meant for the 16ga cord.

Do you have a TS?  The cord that came with it will fit that socket.

I'll get this backwards for sure but the one with the extra tab is the higher amp draw inlet. Cords without the corresponding divot are thinner guage wire and only fit lower amp draw tools. Cords with the divot fit either flavor of tool.

Or vise versa.

Vise versa  [smile]

The simpler shape is the hi-amp.

Afish- I can tell you that it would be a huge safety risk, and you definitely shouldn't, take a 1/4" chisel and carve a V-notch in the new socket to clear the extra tang on your cord.  I definitely never did this to any of mine, and I recommend you also don't do it.

Yeah you need to grab a 16ga plug it. They come with the track saws, routers, I think Domino

Im not sure on the Domino cord.  I do have one but I didnt see a cord that would fit and all the extra cords are all just lumped together at this point .  I have a bunch of these cords and its possible I misplaced the domino cord but Im usually pretty good keeping stuff together.  I for sure dont have any festool routers and have the Makita TS that could probably use the conversion.  So Im assuming a 16ga cord will fit in the socket of the smaller tools?  It would be nice to have 1 cord that will fit and power everything with no issues...
