I have my way of cross-cutting boards beyond the machine's spec., but after watching this clever trick, this will be my go-to way from now on:

P.S. If possible, I'll use the trick with a stop block to ensure precision.

I've never worried about a stop block, just kept it pushed firmly against the back while lifting.

For wider cuts, I use my radial arm saw, but that too has limits.

I suppose this trick will work for the radial arm saw, but since it is probably the most dangerous machine in my shop, I would loathe to try it.

It does seem like it is mostly useful for sheet goods.  Thicker materials seem problematic, both for the weight and the depth limitations.

I would note that I exited from FOG, without first exiting from YouTube, and YouTube segued to the next video.  If I had not had the audio cranked up, I would not have realized and I would have run down my batteries.

YouTube apparently does not shut down by leaving FOG.  You have to shut it down before exiting.

The reason I suggested using a stop block is an insurance when I use the new technique that I'm not familiar with. My previous method was to raise the sheet with two battens and make the cut with everything clamped down (on the keep side) for utmost precision and safety. Often that extra inch or so of cutting capacity saves the day.

Have been using that trick for over 20 years

This is the first time I saw the trick shared. It's more efficient than the one I had been using.

Btw, I am finding YouTube Shorts more useful than regular ones because they're to the point and short in length. I always avoid the long-winded presenters. Regular videos also contain ads, another reason why I avoid them unless they're videos recommended to me.

On an iPad or other mobile device, Youtube is a separate app, not a website, so the app staying open after closing a website is by design and completely normal.
