This British fellow buys a fake DeWalt on purpose to compare to a real DeWalt that he also buys - only to find out that his "real" DeWalt is actually also a fake for which he paid full price!

Hopefully, Festool won't be getting that popular that fakes start cropping up....

This YouTube video not only exposes the fakes, but does a performance comparison with the real versions. It seems that they found more fake DeWalts than Makita or Milwaukee and they found that the fakes were pretty convincing.

I have only seen fakes like this for Mitutoyo digital calipers.
Apparently, the fakes work well enough, as far as accuracy. The big downfall is battery life, the fakes devour them.

And devour Brand loyalty and trust too…🤬🤬🤬.

This doesn’t bode well for any of us. First a Nigerian Prince, and now his Home Depot…😉😉

Harbor Freight is doing the cloning!

That said, my Hercules 20v compact router is superior to my Makita R0701 compact router. The Herc height adjust dances around the Makita.

I've been looking at one of the De-Walt Atomic rattle guns and there's masses of fakes on Ebay and Amazon.
I own a Festool TID which I have to say that I'm underwhelmed by.

I live just 2 miles from the local Harbor Freight. I stop in once in a while. It does apear that they have been upgrading the quality of their top lines of power tools lately (Hercules).

In the past, I would only buy power tools that I might have rented instead. I bought their impact drill to chip out the porcelain tile from my 1950s vintage bathroom. On TV the tiles practically pop off. But not for me.

I bought a big slow drill to use to mix plaster “mud”. It did fine.

And I bought an electric snake on sale after I spent $400.00 to have my show drain snaked out (it took 20 minutes to do, but was an “emergency” call out). It remains un-used in the original box, but it is reassuring to have on-call when needed.

Overall, being selective at H-F can get you very useful tools at a good price (and they stand behind their products).

This is true. I ended up with two of the Herc routers because one day they had an open box special with a discount that landed the price at $35, so I scooped it up.

Turns out whoever had bought it and returned it had mucked up the collet so that it would not fit a 1/4" shank nor would it extract from the shaft. Brought it back months later (because it took me that long to get around to using it), the manager inspected it, tried to see if he could extract the collet and then gave me a brand new one as a replacement.

I've also got quite a few of their Bremen parallel clamps and have enjoyed using them with great results. When you put a Bessey K-Body or Jorgensen next to them you can readily see and feel the differences but the Bremens are solid. And if there's an issue, just bring it back and they take care of it on the spot - kind of like how Sears used to do it Back In The Day.

I have found the Herc to be very comparable. However, my needs don't push them very hard. They have mainly served setup to do chamfers and roundovers - which was the main task I used the R0701 for.
