FastCap's 'stache for the tablesaw:
Saw Stash
I can't find the product or video on his website.

On the YouTube link, under the video in the description, he says its not on their site yet. But, if interested, to contact Sandi (sandi[member=11560]fastcap[/member].com) to order.

The bristles are the same ones that are on bus wheel arches or semi trailers to stop stones flying out from the wheels. Next time your in the traffic look at the wheel arches in a bus

I emailed Fastcap about the Saw Stash.

The details about the Saw Stash should be up on the Fastcap website soon.

They will sell it by the foot.  4" bristles go for $10 per foot.  2" bristles go for $8 per foot.    You can email them now and order if you're interested.

[member=15209]Dave Askew[/member], I think they (FastCap) were watching this thread. See what you started?!

Good idea for Seth to separate this off from the other thread - $10 for a whole length is excellent value and beats $48.

Well I might as well share what I've done with the FastCap Saw Stache.  I was on the fence about sharing the video here on the FOG because this was not my idea.  Dave came up with this idea in a different thread....here is the thread Dave started if you're interested in his version.

  http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-jigs-tool-enhancements/kapex-dust-collection-modification/

Here is a video of what I've done with it.

In full disclosure, FastCap sent me the Saw Stashe  to make this video.    I'm very grateful for them sending me the stashe !

Eric

Great video Eric and very useful.  I just got my Kapex a few weeks ago and have cut a few zero clearance inserts and tomorrow I'll make a few auxillary fences.  The fast cap brush is going to be ordered this week.

While your on the FastCap website check the the Zero Clearance Tape.    I bought some from a local woodworking store and it's been working great for me.  I've made a few ZCI and I just got tired of making them.  For the price of the FastCap tape, it's well worth it!
It's the yellow strip you see in this video.  [wink]

Hi Eric

Well done for having a go at this and for sharing your experience via the video.

In your video it appears that the Fastcap Stache is quite stiff and opens out the profile of the Festool rubber dust catcher. With your experience do you see this as an advantage or something that might need to be sorted out?

If the Stache rubber was heated would it be possible to get it into a shape that would be retained when it cooled?

If the Stache were to follow the Festool rubber shape exactly, do you think that it would still catch on the saw blade as it transited the zero clearance pieces at the back?

Many thanks again.

Hi Peter,

I'm not at home at the moment.  When I get home I'll be able to get back with you about heating the stashe.

It does open the rubber boot on the Kapex.  I think it's a benefit.  I will make more cuts and record it and report back later today.    I did find that bigger chips hit the stashe and bounces back at me.  But those are the heavier chips.  Nothing will make a miter saw 100% dust free.
Take care,
Eric

Peter,

Here are some pictures of a heated 4" saw stashe.  You can heat it and it will maintain the shape.  Over heating did cause the rubber to split at the corners.  You should be able to see that in the picture.
In the pictures below I clamped a piece of 4" stashe, heated it and let is cool off for 15 minutes.  Then I cut 3 slots so I could use the plastic clip that holds the dust boot onto the Kapex.
Once I clipped the 4" stashe onto the Kapex I got excited.  I'm not going to lie.  Having the stashe follow the shape of the dust port of the Kapex looked promising.    But after several test cuts, I was not happy with the results.  As you'll see in the picture, a lot of dust went through the bristles.  So this will not work for me.  Sure would have been nice.

Holding the shape better then I expected.

Here you can see how much dust went past the 4" bristles.

Hope this helps you out buddy.    Unfortunately  timing will not allow me to produce a video, as I'm sure you know what's involved in producing a video.  Although I recorded the process I think  the pictures give you a good idea how it worked out.

Take care,

Eric

DANG IT !  I resized the pics......but not good enough......SORRY GUYS!  MY BAD !
