Here is a great idea and a short video where I am using the fastcap upperhand as a support for longer material while using the MFT 3.
Click on link below in blue

Fastcap 3rd hand

Fastcap as mentioned in video sent this to me for no charge  but it is very very helpful

What you have is from the 3rd Hand family but it is not a 3rd hand.

It is the "3rd Hand HD Tripod" with an (at extra cost) "Upper hand" installed in it.

If you look a the site http://www.fastcap.com/estore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=13401

on the site it states...

"3rd Hand HD Tripod
FastCap welcomes the new 3rd Hand Tripod to the 3rd Hand Family of products. No longer rely on a ceiling as a support for your 3rd Hand! Roller and light accessory also available.

Works with 3rd Hand or Upper Hand (sold separately). Roller Top sold separately also."

I have purchased 4 3rd hands and I have purchased two of the upper hands. Great products.

The Tripod now sells for $20 not a bad price.

I hope this clears up what the product is.... They are great products but don't expect what you see in the Video to arrive at your home... if you order a 3rd Hand.

Cheers,
Steve

Ed added the following
P.S. ....  I have purchased 4 - 3rd hands and 2 - Upper hands and love them.  for cabinet install, also setting up a plastic wall around lead removal, or Wet Saws water walls or as cross trailer/truck bed stops.

Wow, I'm confused.  You mentioned you have 4 3rd hands which equals 12 hands + two upper hands equals 14 hands, but their's no mention of how many feet you have.  I always thought you were a freak of nature, but this just goes to prove it.  [tongue]  What galaxy are you taking some of us back to?

Ken.... you're not helping clear up the problem... Fast Cap has good product! The review did not state correctly what was reviewed... I don't want people to order what they were told and find out latter when it arrives it is not what they wanted.

Also Ken.... 4 (3rd hands) = 4  Then add my two upper hands is 2... plus the ones I was born with.... and you get 8 hands....  you might want to check out my thread about construction calculators..... [scratch chin]

Keep up the humor, Ken.

Cheers,
Steve

Thanks for the clarification.  Manicures must be expensive for you.  [big grin]  I was looking at it as 2 hands for every 3rd hand times 4.  [wink]

Thanks steve for the link and clarification. I have to give you a hand!!!

Your Welcome! That is what FOG members do for each other.

When the Upper hands came out.... I can't tell you how many dealers I called and they would say...so you want the 3rd hand...or the little hand..... their head exploded... when I held firm that I wanting the upper hand! The nomenclature of the product line is not helpful to know what is what.  The reality is they are small, medium, and large and they all have their place.

I really think the addition of the tripod is of great value.  The  upperhands without the the tripod are not a one person upper cabinet tool. I would love to try the tripods on my  Upperhands lifting a cabinet or a condo underground parking stall storage units into place. The storage boxes have to hold 2000 lbs by spec of the association. Wouldn't want the $150,000 MB damaged.... now would we... [eek]  well the eek is from my insurance company....LOL

I would think that the rollers tops added to what you reviewed would make  would make a very quick extension to a Kapex on the Kepex MFT.  The Fastcap product does many things. As much as I want the new Kapex stand... it came out just months after the Kapex was bought. I also want to see the Kapex crown molding extinctions to be redesigned  to accept the new extinctions.  Oh there I go dreaming again.... [big grin]

Please keep up your reviews!

Cheers,
Steve

I just went in and added anadotes to the video to correctly name it and that the pad is separate.  so thanks

steve, I will be doing a my take video on the fastcap stand, in the next week or so, that they sent me. so that is why I had this extra hand around and thought wow what a great idea.  so i will set the fastcap stand up on my ........... makita saw and will show how it will work.

but this tripod is a great addition to the mft and dealing with longer boards, and not having to connect 2 mfts together which is nice but where do I store all this stuff in my van.

Does this UpperHand portion of the stand (if I have that right) have a ball swivel fitting or some other type fitting to allow one to adjust the table to be coplanar with a MFT or whatever you want to align it to?

No each upper hand comes with  two 6"x6" pads that are fixed at 90 degrees. That is how they help  hold an upper cabinet if they were ball based... the cabinet would come down on you.

These are never going to replace the accuracy of the wings that you can buy for the new Kepex stand.... but they will work for great for little jobs. The tripod offers a great way to get your level spinning  the room with out crushing the textured ceiling.

I would say that if you don't already  have FastCap 3rd hand products... this is not a solution you should use for your Kapex. The Festool Wings do things that no other product can do.  In a pinch.... these are great.....

Cheers,
Steve

I guess I should have specified a "lockable" fitting like one typically would find on a camera tripod.  And, I wasn't considering it as a Kapex extension, but just one for the MFT...  Anyway, I guess you have answered my question, and the table portion is fixed and not adjustable -- too bad.

In looking at the Fastcap site, it seems like the upper plate on the tripod pole is their 6"x6" universal foot.  They have a video on the page for that which shows it is compression fit onto the pole of the tripod.  The cost is only an extra $7.50 for the plate.  They also show a roller top for the tripod which is $19.95, and also fits on by compression.

the 3rd hand and the upper hand are not the same. the 3rd hand has a both a small and large 6"x 6" pad that swivel on the ball end... the upper hand does not swivel it is a fixed 6"x 6" pad.

Steve this for you help!  This works great as an extension support and for the few bucks it cost a great asset to you

I guess you have to see it... what would I need to buy to have a set up like kreg's?  (whoever did the website for fastcap should return the money paid to them; i can not visualize what there is).

Order the following and you would have a pair of what he tested and a bag to carry them in. You could add the roller top that you see listed at the bottom of the image as that might be of help for some things.

The page that has it all on ...is  http://www.fastcap.com/estore/pc/3rd-hand-tripod-p13401.htm?atc=1&idproduct=13401

WOW this site is powerful! [eek]

Kreg did a great review of product line I use and find very helpful and useful, The 3rd Hand system. I posted after I saw his review to correction to the name he called it. I didn't know what to call it either, but I did know it was not the a 3rd hand that I own four of them. FastCap has great products, but maybe not the easiest labeling of their product to know what is what. I did it because the 3rd hand product I have purchased...just like Festool they have lived up to the hype and helped me make money.

By supporting a FOG member here and adding some information to the Thread.... resulted in this.

I got an email from FastCap late yesterday.

Steve,

We do appreciate you clarifying the specs on previous video posted.  We wouldn't want anyone to have false expectations.

We are sending you two 3rd Hand HD Tripods and  two 3rd Hand Roller Tops out tomorrow at no cost to you.  No need to give us credit for the product.  Your honest feedback would be great.

Best Regards,
Jon

Dang! Being honest and helping fellow FOG members... is not just the right thing to do...but a lesson in what goes around comes around! Some things don't work some things do... comment on both is the way we all learn and grow.

Good Karma..  is...well good Karma. [thumbs up]

Cheers,
Steve
