FWIW...just ran into this while I was looking for a punch tonnage chart. I think it's a pretty slick way to compare fastener sizes in a relative manner. I can never remember what an M5 equivalent is.  [eek]  Major diameters are also given, that's a nice touch for through-holes.

Even the British are represented here.  [cool]

Both the chart posted by [member=44099]Cheese[/member] and the site posted by [member=3192]rvieceli[/member] are really useful but for me the most used resource is the formula I learned in machine shop in high school. That is:

outside diameter = screw size x .013 + .060.

It's easier to remember as 13 x size + 60. The values for #6 and #8 screws (.138 and .164, respectively) are indelibly marked in my brain. Of course, this is for machine screws. I suspect wood screws are similar (especially the non-tapered kind) but I don't know.
 
My most used fastener aid is this plastic slide rule. It's seen almost daily use for the last almost 50 years. On the front side, in the upper LH corner note the origin date. 

On the front side it has fractions to decimal conversion, drill sizes, sheet metal gauge thickness and dimensions for nuts, washers and drill & tap information.

On the rear side it has dimensional data for commonly used screws & bolts, taper pipe tap data and keyway and setscrew data. Both sides cover fasteners from #4 diameter thru 1" diameter. I'd be lost without it.

Nice printed chart but now that there is almost always a “device” nearby I use an iOS app called “iEngineer”. It gives all the specs for fasteners including yield, clamp, and shear strength. I just use clamp strength as short-hand for safe working strength when looking for a size to suit.

This link above is one I go constantly at work.  It's not exactly print friendly.  But when you need to quickly find what size bits are out there, or you are working thru situation bolting inch and metric stuff to each other it's just the ticket.  Maybe just maybe someday I will get to call out a 0.05mm hole, I want to see that drillbit.
