Besides the Festool catalog.

What magazines do you enjoy getting your tool or trade learning fix from?

Fine Woodworking, Fine Homebuilding, JLC.

For new tool and product alerts I like Tools of The Trade.

I enjoy TotT as well. Since Dave Frane moved over to it from jlc, it's been really good.

LOL, brice, you crack me up  [big grin]

Furniture & cabinatemaking magazine but not sure where outside the UK it's available.

I hear that magazine is pretty good; I looked into subscribing long ago and it was outrageous to get it internationally (like any print mag).  I should look for an online subscription, though I don't like those much.

Paul:
For me it's worth the price. The F&C magazine features and profiles of professional bespoke furniture designers and cabinet makers alone makes it worth the price.
I do feel the UK has produced and continues to have some of the finest craftsmen and designers working in wood in the world. I am not from the UK, but clearly biased. [big grin]
I am sure I am biased because of the magazine but it does offer an alternative approach to the writing in Fine Woodworking and Popular woodworking etc.

Well, excellent...  Completely agree, Tim, that it would be a worthy magazine to read even if for just the UK perspective, but moreso because of their heritage.  3-4 years ago, I looked to get a subscription and that I could tell, it was only available in print; the yearly subscription was outrageously high coming over the pond.  That app makes it very reasonable: $40/year.

Thanks!  (Thanks, too, Woodguy for the offer to send me an issue :)  Maybe one of Ken's mags?)

Here's a link to the iPad version of the F&CM reader app.

not really tool mags, but I enjoy looking through Dwell, Architecture Record and an Italian mag Domus for design ideas.

I think design is a way under-rated skill in the trades

Architecture Record is an inspiring read ...

Do you mean the trades under rate it? or it's under-rated (taken for granted) by customers of trades?
I think both are somewhat true. Customers who won't pay for design and or don't want to pay extra to achieve a certain design and trades who don't think designers add value and are generally a PIA.

Definitely both...

I have rarely come across a set of plans in a woodworking mag where the desk, bookshelf, side table, etc. was an interesting and original design.  I have never, and would never build furniture from a magazine  (jigs and shop accessories excluded)

Whichever is free over the net.
Disposable advertising and print media generates too much waste. I won't support it.
