Fein Table-Top and Drill Jigs Support with Vecturo

It is a safer way to cut some small parts accurately. Sometimes trimming little pieces of wood or other parts that are hard to hold in one hand while using the OMT in the other.

Dovetails ? Perhaps, but the board length would be quite short.

Of course it's nice to have options, but the expense of this plus the drill stand far outweigh the "what if" and "would be nice" factors in my view.

It simply means YOU don't need one, but someone might as OP explained. People do all kinds of things and have variety of other circumstances. I don't judge them.
Besides, it's a drill stand, it has other uses. I use my Proxxon all the time. One of the best tool investments I ever made.

Gonna be difficult supporting decent sized boards when you place it on an angle like in the second picture. Of course you could rig up another support contraption.  But the are better solutions for dovetails.  Sure you could use this , but why ?  You could cut them by hand too. A tabletop CNC machine would be really useful for cutting dovetails too, but the market for that is pretty limited too.

I'm not judging , I'm simply asking who is this targeted for and what exactly would they use it for?  Have you ordered one of the Fein accessories? What are you going to use it for ?

  I don't think it needs to have an exact use or targeted user.  I think it would be very useful for odd ball cuts when they come up. I don't have a list prepared in my memory to back up the following statement but  ............... I do know that this would have been useful on several occasions for cutting watchamacallits. 

  One of the reasons I have a Multimaster or Vecturo in the shop and also keep one in my site work kit is for those odd unplanned cuts that come up. Do I know ahead of time what that cut will be, ummm no. But when it happens the oscillating  multi-tool frequently saves my butt. Being able to use it in a stand falls into the same category. And especially at the price point.

I just wanted to followup on this thread that I started a while back.  I finally broke down and purchased one of the Fein adapters and it does fit the Vecturo without any issues.  Now to buy the drill press to go with it.  [smile]

Sorry for the slow reply.  The email notification that someone had responded to the thread ended up in my junk folder.

I don't have any pictures yet (I have to wait for my wife to give this to me as a holiday gift).

The plan is to couple it with a 43mm drill press stand and use it to make plunge cuts on hickory branches to make rustic hickory furniture.

Good grief.  I just had a thought.  Kind of obvious.  What about a Domino in such a rig? 

It would be a cool mortising machine.

Here is a photo of my setup.  Right now I'm just using a cheap 43mm drill stand from eBay.  I still have a ways to go to build a clamping system to hold a hickory log in place but the overall plunge system seems to work well enough for my purpose.  If the drill stand doesn't prove to be sturdy enough, I can easily upgrade to something more rigid as it was under $20 on eBay. 

If someone else is going to replicate this, make sure you get a drill stand with the side drill mount in addition to the front mount.  To get the correct orientation of the Vecturo I had to use the side mount and cut away the front mount for clearance.

I like it...as Seth said, I don’t have a specific need for it but it certainly seems like it would fit the bill for that quirky application or two. You’re not going to use it every day, but then again you don’t use the Fein everyday. At least I don’t.

As far as clamping logs down to process them, have you considered adapting a chain vise that’s used on Ridgid threading machines or on Milwaukee band saw tables? It could be attached to the left or right of your Vecturo. It will handle all sizes and shapes of logs and you could pad the chain to prevent it from damaging the bark/surface.

That’s the reason I find it interesting that on the surface, it seems that woodworking tooling and metal tooling are really unrelated...yet on a macro/micro level...it’s only the material that’s really different.
