FES-TOY ETS EC 150/5 going in for THIRD repair

Dare I say I'm looking forward to doing drywall work now just to see how well the sander works??

Would it be best to start with 180 grit Granat and see how that goes?  My mudding skills aren't so good so I was planning on letting the sander take care of the imperfections...

180 will work fine but I'm always careful with a sander on drywall to not get into the paper layer.  So if you have a slightly used 180 you might start with that. Drywall is so soft I even start at 220.  It will smooth it out quickly.  Granat is the right paper.

As Neil stated, try not to sand through the paper layer, because when painted, you will notice a definite difference in texture.  Better to start high and if needed go lower in grits.

If you blow through the paper layer, it just takes a couple of extra primer coats to smooth things out. However that’s still additional work...which makes the project more of a PITA.

Thanks for that advice.

Is 240 grit too high?  That's the next grit up from 180 that I have.  I just recently bought the variety pack from festoolnirvana.  I kinda agonized over what assortment to get.  I finally decided to get 10 of each: 150, 180, 240, 320, 400.  That's to go along with the 40, 60, 80, 120 that I already had.

Got the ETS EC 150/5 EQ back after second repair. Worked for about 1.5 hours of occasional use. Same problem. Filled out third repair request and it's off to UPS again tomorrow. Same problem won't start. I see a class action coming soon. They are literally paying the repair facility more $ than just replacing it, but it's bound to happen again with another one. I see this tool as putting a little green color in most peoples' shops and taking a lot of green out of the wallet. But so far since I had to get a dealt RO as a backup for these never ending repairs on festoy, The dewalt is winning in performance so far. I don't need to store a sander in a feisty case. I put mine to use. I rely on it. It has been horrible so far. Won't stay running for any reliable time to get a job done. Will keep you posted. The fish stinks from the head first. Soon I'm going to the top of festoy for failure to provide product as described.

At least you got your dud back.

My ETS EC 150 has been lost at Festool for over a month and now they claim they never received it (!). The sales rep sent them two repairs in a 9kg package; a Festool RG130 and my machine. The RG130 weighs around 4kg plus Systainer and packaging.
Festool claims they only got one machine in the registered 9kg package which means that my machine has either been stolen along the way or someone at Festool lost it. The other machine in the package has been repaired and back at the shop over three weeks ago.

Needless to say this is _beyond_ poor performance for customer service. Six weeks without the machine only to say "we never got it".

My replacement sander will not be a Festool - that's for sure!

Here's looking at you Mirka! Might check out the Metabo version of the Mirka and see if they run it with a standard cord and not the proprietary Mirka cord.

The whole point of Festool is to have good service. That's why we all came here...

The fact that they can't address an issue that is being blogged about on their website in an appropriate manner is really just... pathetic...

Does the MOD on here not communicate with headquarters anymore? What happened to this place?

I got my ETS EC 150/5 back from service the other day, but haven't had a chance to test it yet. It was shutting down after about 10 minutes, then would re-start, and shut of sooner until it would shut off immediately. Let it cool and it would run for 10 minutes. The tool never physically got hot.

Under warranty they replaced:
500255 Electronic
500257 Electronic
704459 NTC resistance

Had the same problem with mine 7 months old, had to send in for repair two times in a 3 week span.
Festool said that it would be going back to germany so they sent me a new one. that was two weeks ago. hopefully they do the same for you. angel
