Feskit TS55 Door

Hi Everyone

In one of my videos I showed my TS55 with a home made dust door made of cardboard and masking tape. Then someone wrote to me to say that there was a guy in the UK selling proper ones that he creates on a 3D printer. The UK company is called Feskit and I mention them at the start of this video:


The only thing to watch is the cost of postage when you get to the checkout but I have written to the guy and suggested that he trims it down to a sensible level.

I think its purpose is to improve dust extraction  (ie, suction) rather than prevent dust coming out of the small opening on the side of the saw.

I emailed the guy about his Feskit door right after I saw Peter's video.  Asked if he shipped to the US.  He said yes.  But the cost was 8.50 pounds for the door and 9.99 pounds for shipping.  I thought that was just a bit too steep.  I found a guy on Etsy selling a more simplified version but he only makes it for the TS 75.  His is a friction fit and its $7, free shipping.  He said he would email me once his testing on the TS 55 version was done.

Yeah, the shipping cost has stoped me buying this a couple of times. Given the plethora of £20 tool bits/accessories I'd like to buy, the ease of taping the hole over on my TS always wins. . . so far

I have now exchanged emails with the Feskit guy and he has agreed to sort out the delivery charge for small items.

Yes, I got caught out with Feskit.
I ordered two or three items from him at the same time, and not only did he cane me on postage, he charged separate postage on all the items.

Shame really, as I was very pleased with the items but, it left a sour taste.

Has anyone examined the airflow in or out of that window? Dust extraction requires "flow" - not simply negative pressure, as we know.
Might there be a functional reason why that opening was left uncovered? - cooling airflow as well?

You’re probably right Hans about the air coming in through the little window having some salutary effect like keeping dust from accumulating on the arbor screw but there is a lot of other openings for air flow that are less obvious (look on the other side of the blade housing) so I wouldn’t worry about cooling.

With the TS 75 especially, we need someone to design a 3D printable insert that continues the front of the blade housing down to the shoe. Bevel cutting makes that very difficult but maybe...I’d like something better than the bit of tape I’m always replacing.

Most dust escaping the saw shoots out the front especially when cutting thinner material. The 75 needs the blade to be plunged deeply to throw the debris up into the blade housing.

FWIW, the *cough* Mafell side plate has no hole. That's not to say it doesn't server a purpose other than blade changing on the TS saws... but I'd doubt it IMHO.

I think the hole is simply there to facilitate the blade change. 

If you buy the ABSA - TS55 and use it on thin edge trims - the hole is blocked too.

I have that, works good (also as a short distance fence). Downside is that it does not close the windows on bevel cuts.

Here is my take on this for a TS75 - it does improve DC and could be extended down to the shoe, but mine does not - I wanted to be able to install it or use it with and without the anti-splinter guard.
