Got an invitation last week to the 2010 tool launch at my local dealers and like a fool I attended today. I have always been impressed with Festool tools but this latest bunch have gone to the next level. As always the refreshments provided proved to be very expensive in the end and a new Kapex base is on its way.(Cant understand having a tool launch and not having stock available to take away).
The truly outstanding tool had to be the Carvex, Its light in weight, great feel in the hand and has been so well thought out. For example if you invert the jigsaw the LED light will not operate , so that you don't get blinded. the strobe light is weired as it makes the blade look like it is static while you cut with it and the saw dust seems to be frozen in mid air. Another interesting feature is the automatic setting on these saws. The previous festool jigsaws had the usual speed selector the Carvex has these as well but in addition it has an "A" setting. This works like a torque responce mode . So when you use it in the a mode as the blade hits resistance in the material you are cutting it automatically increases the speed of the blade. It feels like using a soft start trigger and as you cut into the material it automatically accelerates. There are lots of models and variations both cordless and corded, with and with out accessory packs . The bisecting base is a great innovation as well. I had decided before i went to the tool launch that i definitely did not need a new jigsaw but know i think the trion may be hitting EBay.
The replacement for the C12 is also good with the built in light and it shares the same batteries as the T`s. I was told that it will be available naked.
I did not play with the new Rotex but the Rep said that they believe it will be a best seller. It seemed to have loads of grunt in all modes and was causing a lot of interest.
The other outstanding item was the Kapex base , for any one doing site work its great, just lift the main support bar fold it and away you go, no more lugging chop saws for me .( getting to old [smile]) the extension arms fit tho the saw just like the support wings and are ridged when fitted and bang on accurate. The other really great thing about the extension arm are the fact that the foot of the support leg(the hinge) is the same height as the Kapex so in a work shop you can create your own chopsaw bench-by putting it on a flat surface. Now here is the really Good bit The extension arms also fit the V section on the MFT , CMS. Instant in feed and outfeed tables. As soon as it arrives possibly Friday you get pictures and a quick review.
