Hi all,

I am actually living in Europe but coming to US for a week. I was already planning to buy Festool 150 sander and I am now thinking of buying it from US, I like having good memories with my tools. I am planning to order this one:https://www.amazon.com/Festool-575060-Random-Orbit-Sander/dp/B07BR6CKQ1/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=festool+sander+150&qid=1553371744&s=gateway&sr=8-2

My question is, can anyone check if this tool works with 220 Volt as well? Most of the time  electronic equipment accept 110/220V both, but I want to be 100% sure before I order.

Thank you

Festool doesn't make their tools universal.  So it will be a 110V tool only.

There really is no reason to ever buy tools in the US if you come from Europe, we get just a subset of the tools sold in Europe, you would have no warranty, and in the case of Electrical tools, you would have to have a transformer.  The other direction happens as those in North America can buy UK tools that are 110V when a model isn't available in N.A, and just accept the lack of warranty. Or buy 230V tools and just use it as we have both 240/120V in our houses, but still accept no warranty.

It's a great sander, but I doubt it will work on 220v circuits as tools made for the US by Festool are 110v tools. I would just buy the tool in Europe suited specifically to your electrical system. I don't understand why you would want to buy in the US (no offense, but it just seems like a good idea to buy tools from your home area in case of problems).

DT, I purchased a new DF500 Domino machine from the UK for use in Australia as it was half the Oz price (this was before new import duty prices hiked prices up even further). I was willing to forgo the warrantee because Festool have such a good reputation for build quality. To be clear here, warrantees are not transferable from one country to another.

The voltage in the UK and Australia is the same (220-230v). I would not have purchased a USA machine as using a converter is not desirable - its an extra hassle that is not needed. Get the correct voltage. Pay the extra, if needed, as later you will regret this incumberance.

Incidentally, have you considered the Mirka range for sanders? I have a Ceros, which has been superceded by the Deros. They are special and a real alternative to the 150/5.

Regards from Perth

Agreed in a situation like you have, the price savings may be worth the warranty loss, especially if you can still buy replacement parts in country as needed.  I'm not sure North Americans get a price benefit on buying tools in the UK/EU vs the US.  For us, it's all about NAINA.
