Festool and Hand Planes

I think weight is your friend when it comes to hand planing

If you can’t make a 200kg work bench then is there a way to add weight to an MFT? Some lower shelf arrangement which you can load up with blocks or offcuts? I think an MFT simply is too lightweight so your body mass is rocking and moving it as you plane.

Thank you all so much.  Always impressed with the way everyone is so willing to share ideas.

Although I use them on a heavier hybrid style workbench, I find these planing stops carried by Tools for Working Wood to be quite useful for workholding on a surface that has round holes.  The screws for the stops are tight enough to be circumscribed on a 20mm post.

I incorporated the best of both worlds in my primary bench as well as my guitar bench...20mm grid for MFT type utility and some .75" holes for my beloved hold-fasts. The bench is heavy enough for hand plane work and also adjustable in height. (Noden Adjust-A-Bench)

Snip.

Looks pretty solid. Indeed the best of both worlds.

Holdfasts are god-sends for BOTH handwork and power tool work. They're the best quick-release clamps to me.
