Acording to Festools (Germany) website: beginning July there is a updated version from there good old OF 1010 router available.

Main diferences are:
  • Plastic dust Extraktion Port with the new cleantec connection (bevor the dust extraction was full included in the base and had a oval shape)
  • Now both guide rods are clamped by turning the front nob (same as the OF 1400)
  • The depth stop moved from the right to the left to allow more space when changing bits
  • Acording to Festool it is still a list weight router – but the weight has increased more then 10% compared to the current modele (2,7 Kg -> 3,0 Kg)
  • It is sad that the parallel guid has not changed at all!

This depth setting is nicer; it actually shows what side you need to turn...

The bigger opening nice

Clamping with 1 knob; ok.

But 300g more???

Base looks more massive. Maybe stronger?

Still no ratched spindle like the OF1400, but with bigger access it's less of a problem.

No lights in the base?

Looks like more plastic, less metal.

Not trading in my 15 year old OF 1010, but if it breaks down I might buy the new one... and sell the ugly Sys3

My addiction might have to have one of those. I already have more routers than any sane person needs, but I do have bits in a Systainer that could use a home.
Who knows when they will hit the US market though?

So does the updated OF 1010 REBQ seem worth waiting for? or will the current OF 1010 be a better choice?

I bought mine about a week ahead of the announcements for the new one, it’s one of my skills. [wink]

Of what I’ve seen, I think the nicest improvement is the dust collector port. The oval port on the current one is a bit of a pain, but I don’t know that it’s a show-stopper. There are various adapters around that “fix” that. OTH, the port on the new one is a plastic fitting and it’s part of the base casting for the older version.

The plunge locking on both sides is probably a good thing, but the single side lock seems robust enough to me. The ideal thing would be to find a dealer that might have both and compare side by side. But that is probably not feasible due to the supply disruptions.

I'd like Festool to shed some light on why no light on this new version.

I know many say they have no need for a light, but probably just as
many do. The other half don't have a choice. If there is no light there
is no chance to choose yes.

If you don't want the light keep your eyes closed when routing,
then you can say you're doing it in the dark.  [eek]

Depends on how long you're willing to wait, since I don't anticipate the REBQ appearing on our shores before 2022.  I don't think it's even been officially announced over here.

It would be nice if there was an LED hidden up under there somewhere

I'd definitely upgrade if the new 1010 had built-in LED lighting...that'd be a no-brainer.  However, without that feature this 1010 "upgrade" really doesn't offer me anything worth considering.

The oval dust port while an inconvenience, still works and I like that it's part of the router casting. The single plunge lock works fine, I've never had an issue with it. Spacing out the controls for better router bit access is nice but I've gotten along fine so far with the smaller space. There's just nothing on the new 1010 that gives me that "ah ha"  [not worthy]  moment.

Im in the market to buy the OF 1010 but dont need it right away.

So a question to the group - Is it better to buy the current OF 1010 model with the built in metal dust port, or wait and buy the updated OF 1010 with the larger opening, the depth turret moved to the left side and the plastic dust port similar to the OF 1400?

Here are a recent set of short videos from Festool UK on the new OF 1010 R.

Does anyone know if or when this is coming to the US? Is there a rule of thumb how long it usually follows by? Is it realistic they may choose not sell it in the US?

I'm not in a hurry to buy a router unless it could be over a year.

It's a cra_ shoot...the TSC 55 K was announced in the UK and 5 months later it was available in the US.
On the other hand, the SYS-PowerHub was announced in the UK and 5 1/2 years later it's still not available in the US.

Same thing for the SYS-PowerStation.

Oof, that makes a hard decision. I guess this isn't an entirely new product but a revision so hopefully sooner than later. It looks like most US dealers are taking preorders for replenish stock of the current version.

It looks like this is going to be available in N America soon. Text tool craft has posted it for preorder.

Looks nice but the only 2 features that would convince me to upgrade from my current OF 1010 would be a ratchet spindle like the 1400 and an LED light.

One of the more subtle modifications to this new router is the inclusion of a magnetic safety switch so if mains power is lost and you forget to turn off the router, once mains power is restored this thing won't fire up by itself and beaver out what ever it's next to.

However, this then begs the question of while they had to enter the belly of the beast to include this new feature, adding LED's probably wasn't that much of a further stretch.  [scratch chin]
