Festool announces their version of the MFTC

Looks interesting, except for the price.  I like Tim's Benchworks MFTC design better ! [big grin]

SYS-MFT, remote vac control, add-on cyclone, and now MFTC. Initially were created by users (FOG members) and now "reinvented" by Festool.
Yeh, Festool is listening.  [big grin]

I like the Festool version. Looks more versatile. Sorry, Tim.  [big grin]

If Festool was thinking they would have offered Tim a number he couldn't refuse and developed it into a product line that would have taken off. One that offers the possibilities for loads of options/add-ons and would be an excellent alternative to a MFT/3 for smaller more mobile jobs.

The chap who came up with the original Workmate (was from England I believe) licensed or sold his design (I don't know which) to B&D who took it worldwide and made them both a mint. Granted the current Workmate is a cheap copy of their better models from the 70s and 80s, but after almost 50 years they are still selling them.

I got my first Workmate (all metal, no plastic) in the early 70s, and have bought two more of the old ones off Craigslist over the past couple years when they popped up and didn't pay more than $30 for either one. Did you know the holes in the bench top are not 3/4" but 20mm and that the B&D benchstops fit snugly in the MFT/3. You can still buy (at least 2 years ago you could) replacement benchstops from B&D. I got a set of four for less than $10 + shipping. They offered options to mount a circular saw, jig saw, or router on the workmate back then and had a clamping system too. Can't say if they were any good I never tried them.

Bob -
I still got my old Workmate, too. [smile]
Comes in handy to mount my Tormek Sharpener onto it.
Same thing with my Northern Chain Saw Sharpener.
Like you, I’m glad that I hung onto it. [wink]

. I have a late 80’s /very early 90’s Workmate.  Still like it enough to keep it around all these years too. Still impressed with its two work heights and the compact size once folded up for storage or transporting.

This item above from Festool looks interesting. I don’t need one, but will be curious to see if they sell here in the US if we get them.  [scratch chin]

Looks nice and how cool is that for Tim that Festool copycats his idea
Unless Festool bought or paid him royalties for his designs he’s probably not very happy since he sells plans for the MFTC online.

I believe the plans are all milk and cookies for Tim and more just for fun.
If you see his finished work and the serious workshop upgrades over the last year(s) I assume (here we go [member=1674]Peter Halle[/member]) this is not paid by some online plans, but I could be wrong off course.
Other than that I think it's hard to claim a design like that.

No, I see it as an honour that a respected company like Festool takes your basic design in something that suits their entire line of products and identity.

I agree. Besides, Festool can go right back at Tim and claim MFTC is based on MFT and Sysport.

Too bad those MFT extensions can't clip on to the Kapex (or can they?).

Why wouldn't they? The Kapex extension wings fit both, so these new MFT extensions should also.

They just won't fit onto the UG cart for transport like the wings do.  [wink]

The more I look at it the more I like it, but that's ussually the case with Festool stuff... [crying]
