Festool belt sander extraction hose connector "rubbish"

Guys I  have nearly all the Festool products......and in the most love them!

The one i hate most of all is the " idiot" at  Festool who designed the connector that fits on the belt sander to take the suction hose. This damn thing keeps coming loose and falling off because it can't lock properly as a result of very poor design .

The unit twists a half turn to so cAlled lock position then when you have to use the vac hose 27mm  the action of sanding makes the whole unit undo and fall off.....the hose fits perfect but this half turn elbow unit is nothing but poorly thought out design.

It should. Have been a screw tight thread so you can properly lock it to the sander and it woul be perfect as the action of sanding up and down puts pressure on the hose which sticks up and I using a boom arm as well it is much worse without  a boom arm as the pressure on the hose connection is much greater.

Other than gluing it to a $1000 sander has anyone else had this problem and if so how did they resolve it?

Thanks  guys

Steve you are not alone both in brand and fellow FOGER.

The same problem exists with my Metabo belt sander. The connection with the Festool hose is good, but like your sander the rubber dust port twists off the sander.

There may be a solution for us both in following replys.  [smile]

Edit.
However your sander is a NAINA item!

Hmmm - I was planning on getting a BS105 shortly - specifically for DC benefit.

Hey Kev don't stress the sander itself in the carriage has been great in the past it's just the damn ordinary way the dust hose coupling attaches that's all .  And they cost $1500 which is disappointing  for something so expensive that has a weak point.

Make sure you get the carriage version as it takes the problem of gouging when sanding table tops, I have made quite a few tables and joined with hardwoods such as black butt, jarrah, mess mate etc all very hardwoods  and when you set the carriage it acts like a hovercraft and virtually impossible to gouge finishes.

I will contact Festool  tomorrow  as my warranty runs out next month after 3 years, and the. If they can' t help I will glue the damn thing on.

Yeah  I just found out you lot in USA don 't have them there.

You poor bastards are starved of many Festool items the Germans must like us Aussies better [eek]

Like testing out $1500 sanders with crap connectors [unsure]

Cool ... maybe a hose support on the frame. I need to take a close look.

Yes, deffo getting the frame ... I made a real mess with my 75mm belt sander a long time ago [embarassed]

I use my BS105 sander now for 3 years and never had this hose connection come loose.
But i have also a BS75 and the hose connection comes loose sometimes and the connection is less tight compared
to the BS105, I switched the connection from the BS105 to the BS75 and it is still loose, so the connection
of the BS75 is not tight enough.
But if the angle of the vac hose gets to small the hose can easily turn the connection loose.
The bent part can be taken apart to turn it to the other side but it would be better if the bent part could turn by itself in the connection

Yea, I'm actually hoping the festool belt sander comes here as my other one is starting to die. Unfortunately it will probably need replacing before festool gets here.

I think I mAy have solved my problem by not using the elbow unit and plug hose direct into coupling

I was looking at the 75, but I dont know if they make a 110V one. I cant find one on the different websites be it German or UK.

Maybe doing me a favor, Man that thing is expensive.......
