Festool brittle plastic

Hello, new to the forum.
I’ve never been a fan of Festool’s choice of plastic. I do like the tools.
Back in May I bought the mw1000 work station, and seeing the baseplate I had my doubts on durability.
Sure enough the adjustable foot broke of somehow in my van. The good ( excellent) thing is the personal response I got from customer service. They are sending me a new unit no questions asked.
On the one I have now I put the foot in and just filled the cavities around it with PUR glue. I am going to do the same thing to the new unit as soon as I receive it.

Hope this doesn't turn out to be like the defective/poorly made CT hose garages that broke if a strong wind came along.

Hello, welcome to the forum.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
I got the mw1000 workstation last friday, and I remembered this post. (mine was already assembled, and the actual holes to be filled are bigger than I imagened from the picture, so I filled them with chemical anchor stuff that is normally used for glueing rebar/threaded rod).
How do you like yours sofar? Are the plastic things that are used to secure the legs of the extention table holding up ok?, the ones on my table snap in less easy than I saw on the demonstration videos, but I hope they'll break in after some use.

Hm, nice idea. I have one also, and remember when I assembled it, I thought that the quality did not match the price, especially the base, also the leg locks on the extension table, along with - to me - too short plastic connection to the V-grove.
I was in the idea of strengthen the whole extension table with a cross brace in plywood, from the table to about one 3rd down the legs, so it could be more sturdy.

The MW1000 is nice and practical though. Mine has seen very little abuse, as it’s going to be more or less stationary within my property. It is moved all right, but not in the same way as a professional.

I would say treat it with kid gloves. I have Festool stuff from 15 years ago until now, including the new kapex reb and stand, plus routers and saws and jigsaws and mft tables etc.
Good design and gimmicks, but bad quality and durability. The plastic is the weak link. The covers for the saw wings literally ripped when I picked them up by the strap that won’t stay tight.
Most everything is really geared toward shop toy status, not actual mobile jobsite use. I use the Milwaukee pack out stuff and it’s bombproof. I would never treat any festool mobile system the way I can use other tools. And not talking about abuse. I mean real world working conditions on site. The positive thing is they react right away, and actually sent me a brand new mw1000 no questions asked. So I will keep using this one until it gets mangled.

Hmmm, I havent had a issue with mine and I throw mines in te back of my truck with a lot of other festools and drove 17 hrs set it up used it and 17 hrs back. Im going to be throwing it in the back of the truck and driving 5 hrs for and set up another job soon.

I havent had any issues so far.

But its good to know I will get get good support no matter where I am as they will ship a replacement to my job site if needed

In my opinion ,Festools plastic is their weak link. I have the one of the broken hose garages on a mini that I have learned to live with. My current concern is the radio that the plastic is changing color from being in the sun. I have to admit that nowadays I think twice when considering new stuff
