The NEW Festool Carvex Jigsaws are now available for pre-order!  All four new carvex saws can be found on www.festoolproducts.com  If you haven't had an opportunity to use one of these saws yet, we can guarantee that you'll be blown away.  Adaptable power that matches your feed rate, a strobe that miraculously slows down the cutting motion of the blade to the human eye, cordless models, unbelievable angle bases and more.  Blade changes are a cinch.  These suckers will cut a Panzer tank in half, cuts will be splinter free and guaranteed to be perpendicular.  Disclaimer - may detonate (minimum sparking with Fes blades) any unexploded ordinance.

Festool 561466 PS 400 EQ Carvex Jigsaw @ Festoolproducts.com - $350

Festool 561472 Carvex PSB 400 EQ Jigsaw @ Festoolproducts.com - $350

Festool did the unthinkable and took the Festool 561097 PS 300 Jigsaws and improved upon them.  We all thought there was nothing that could be done to the older models.  There was no room for improvement.  But the boys from Germany have done it again.

what about the accessories bases in the systainer? can we pre-order that also?

Is the Carvex still shipping on 6/1/2011?

Woof Brice.  Damn man!  Answering two phones, writing an email blast and authoring a new thread takes some serious multi tasking skills.

Hey, someone's got to keep you on your toes. [tongue]

Its true, Brice.
(I shutter to think what this will do to my younger colleague's ego here). I sit next to him quite a bit and laugh at him typing 120 wpm and taking calls from all you guys at the same time.

I will humbly add to Sean's rather embarrassingly curt post, that the MMC electronics are truly impressive. Reminds me of another southern Germany company in regard to their grinder technology...
I am particularly interested to see how the brushless setup holds up over time. "Brushless" is the future if the manufacturer (whoever they may be) can keep the power up and the heat down.

Congrats on the first post!  Most dealers don't charge until they ship but you might want to confirm that.  Don't hold your breath on the CMS.

What are the other bases specifically for?

The angle one is pretty clear (and pretty cool).  But what are the specialty bases intended for?

Dealers, any info on pricing for the circle cutting tape/base, not in the full kit?

I'll respond in both of the concurrent threads that have sparked a lot of excitement over the Carvex, but you'll get the answers to (hopefully) all of your questions in the coming days as we launch our website with all of the juicy details on the new Carvex. Plenty of video, specs, features detail, accessory info, etc. Stay tuned.

A ha, thanks for that lead Shane.

Found the answers:
The Carvex currently has six purpose-designed bases to help you tackle your next project.
The guide rail and trammel base, the hard fiber base, the angle base, the metal cutting base, the low-friction base and the felt base.

Good explanations for each one. Nice!

Mircea, thanks for the kind words.

Pre orders work as such.  Your card is authorized for the total of the preorder but funds are not drawn from your account (card charged) until the product leaves the warehouse and is on the road to you.

Nothing on the CMS but my fingers are crossed as well.

Dear Junkie, off the top of my head and after a long night of climbing and catching up on emails, I do remember a few of the bases.

Metal base, to the best of our knowledge at training (including some Fes employees, names withheld) was a metallic base meant to cut just that, metal.  I'm not enough of a metal working guy to understand why an interface of metal to metal would be best here.  Maybe someone can chime in.

Guide rail base speaks for itself, a base to be used in conjunction with the guide rail for straight cuts.

Felt base was a super soft, micro fleece (if you will) base for zero marring.  Use this with delicate material that is prone to scratching.

Low friction base.  Think small dimples all over the base like a golf ball!  Pretty cool.  Similar to a Kreg router table top.  Low friction, easy glide.

Angle base, well we've all seen the videos.  If not you can check'em out on www.festoolproducts.com under the carvex jigsaws.  Unreal piece of equipment.  Simple to adjust and very sturdy, nothing flimsy, which was a big relief.  Not that I was expecting it from Fes, but there was a concern that it may have been a bit of a novelty base and not worked so well.  I can assure you it was sturdy and gave good support whether working inside or outside angles.
