So, new toys tools arrived today, and I started reading through the manuals...  [eek]

There's an interesting comment in the manual for the CMS VL Table lengthener.

[attachimg=#]

Now clearly that's a lie, because as we can see in the official Festool photos, there is a VL attached *AND* a sliding table.

So, I guess the question is, why would the comment be in there in the first place? Was there an old design of sliding table that it didn't work with? Is it specific to installation on the CS 50 EB rather than the CMS GE?

Would love to hear your thoughts, or an official Festool observation.  [wink]

Garry, that image shows the CMS GE - the stand-alone version.

The CMS VL hooks to the edge of the MFT and doesn't have provisions for mounting the infeed/outfeed extensions.

I'm unfamiliar with the extension that is mounted on the back of the table to the operator's right (NAINA) but on the VL, that is where the MFT connects.

I think I may have missed something because of everything we don't have here...

What we call the CMS-GE appears to be the same in Europe as here.

What we call the CMS-VL also appears to be the same as in Europe.

If you look at what I think is called the CMS-VL both places, you will note that the infeed/outfeed ends don't have the mounting provisions for what is called an Extension Table.

I see that on the UK sight, they also use the suffix "VL" but then state that it works with only the CS 50 & CMS-GE.

Tom

EDIT: Changed prefix to suffix.

It depends how you mount the slide rail. It has 2 positions it can go in. I use mine with the VL all the time so it can def be used.

Hey Tom I got my zobo's today. Thanks for getting them out so quick.

'Glad you go them quickly, BC!

With the wacky weather lately, you just never know...

Yeah lately it's been crazy. I just looked at some older pics of my CMS and I do have the slider rail mounted in both positions.

That image shows the CMS-GE, which to my understanding, signifies the base unit. If it has 4 legs, it's a GE and if it has 2 legs, it's a VL.

I think that explains the OP's highlights of the manual.

I think the UK site on this page, makes it appear that the "VL" indicates the extension tables that only attach to the infeed/outfeed ends of the GE. Or perhaps, I'm all confused.

Hopefully, one of our German-speaking brethren can enlighten us on what GE and VL stand for?

Tom

VL stands for Verlängerung i.e. Extension. GE stands for Grundeinheit which is base. Suprisingly. ;-)

All of the orinal words in Festool names are very functional and descriptive in German that end up abbreviated.

Hi Tom,

The manual is for the VB-CMS (which is the extension on the left side of the table) and the VL (which is the extension at the rear). If you take a look at the photo, you'll see it's very specific to the "lengthener". In the UK, the VL unit which attaches to the MFT is called the MFT/3-VL and the extension table for the CMS is called the CMS-VL. As Reiska notes in his translation, that makes perfect sense.  [big grin]

I am attaching it to the CMS-GE (which has four legs) and BC Construction is correct in that it fits regardless of which of the two positions for the sliding table you select.

Which is why the sentence in the manual is so strange.
