Hi,

I am designing my Festool workshop ( a 1 car garage).  I want it to be highly functional, and attractive.

Would somebody please send me something flat (paper would be fine, perhaps an advertising poster) that has Festool green, black, and silver colors at least 1 inch diameter so I can match these colors at my local Home Depot? Will then be able to paint all the shop made cabinets and benches in Festool colors.  I took my saw in today but their color matching machine requires a flat surface.

Thanks

Here's the green & green/blue-black, if you have a decent printer, you can print it.

This post brings up a subject that would be great to get out in the open, although I suspect it might not be acceptable.

I am a contractor and the investment in Festool allow me to work...  Am I (WE) allowed to use the Festool logo on my business card along with the the registered trademark symbol?

Isn't this weird.  How many contractors would ask if they could use the Black & Decker logo?

Shane!

Not trying to start a controversy,

Peter

Would anyone you do work for even know who Festool is or would it make a difference?  Just curious, I'm just a hobbyist but I assume anyone that hires someone to do a WW project probably has never heard of Festool and I can't imagine it would help secure a sale.  I can't see the harm, maybe on the back of a business card, saying somethng like, we use quality tools including, Festool......

If you want to color match paint, just pop one of your latches off a systainer and take it with you.  Wouldn't that work?

While you can't use the logo on a business card without written consent, I have pitched the idea of getting stickers of various sizes with clear backing available for customers.  Could be attached to a vehicle, window, etc.  Anyone care to share their feedback on that idea?  Also, the possibility might exist that dealers could include a free sticker with an order.

Edit: BTW, nice Fes-stools  ;D

For the Festool Green the RGB value is 66 188 60.. they should be able to match off this. If you show me a link on the web to the colours you are after (e.g. festool promo material) I can tell you the colours by analysing in Photoshop. I know for example that for Dulux here in the UK you can go through there colours on the web and it gives the RGB values assotiated (e.g. http://www.dulux.com.au/specifier/colour/colour-atlas)

Shane,

I think the stickers are a great idea; I remember when I opened my latest iPod apple had included something very similar and it seemed a lovely little extra.

Cheers,
Rick

Colors will also look different under different lighting conditions, so you might want to try a sample under your shop lighting.

I still say my Festools are black and not blue.....

Best,
Todd

A little clarification, older Festool power tools were black and newer ones are slightly blue.  It's especially noticeable on the T+3 drills.

Edit: I was corrected by Christian :)  The color has always been blue.  With older tools, the quantity of blue pigment was lower and in the newer tools it has been changed so the blue is more prominent.

Shane,

I would love to see Festool Stickers and decals.  When I was at the training class I asked Brian about that and he told me a lot of people have also been asking about them.  He's not on the FOG so he must be getting his information from people he meets.  I would like a large car decal and smaller one for my hard hat and some decals to put around the shop.  I think it would be a pretty cool idea to produce and sell them.

While I am proud to be a Festool owner, I don't think I would be interested in opening my wallet to provide free advertising in the form of decals on my car, windows of my home or on a placard in my front yard.
Also, why would I want to tell my neighbors and strangers cruising the neighborhood that I have a shop full of expensive tools?  I am sure that many of the tradesmen that post to this Forum have had problems with their tool trailers being broken into at sometime or another.  Why provide unnecessary encouragement.

Neil,

You brought up a very valid point.  Tradesmen always have to walk the line between advertising and not if they have a truck or trailer.  I have posted in other forums regarding the question and the response has been mixed.  I realize that I do not gain all the business I want by not using signage on vehicles.  I have only left my trailer on a job overnight twice since 2001.  I didn't sleep either night.  Others do it all the time and don't worry about it.  That's what insurance is there for.  Invest what I have in tools and then look at the insurance cost - you basically pay for the tools in insurance costs in 5 years.  Then deal with the hassle of the claim, etc., not worth it in my book.  That being said, I would never put a Festool sticker on any of my vehicles.

I would however like to use the Festool logo on marketing / website / etc. to provide emphasis on the fact that I care about my clients and their home and their health by using tools that provide excellent dust collection, faster results, etc.

I might be in the minority but that is ok.  Just like I would name my dogs Kapex, Domino, Rotex, but would draw the line at RAS 115 or KS-PS.  By the way we have Rotex, Kapex, Deltex, etc.  Why wasn't the Domino called the Dominex?  ??? ??? ???

Oh come on Neill, you're forgetting about the value of Festool as a status symbol! Gotta be able to show off a bit, you know ....... ::)

Mac,

You got what I was going for.  Look at the new 4MM dominos and in those terms you will think about the movie Men in Black and the weapon - Noisy Cricket.

Peter,

Just like that football player for the Cincinnati Bengals, you could name your dog after the new saw, Kapex Ocho Ocho!

Anyway you are right about the fine line.  I would not hesitate to advertise.  I think that it is your livelihood and sometimes you just need to take calculated risks to be successful.  If you did suffer a loss, just be sure that you are adequately insured in terms of the tools and supplies you carry but also business interruption.  Be sure that you have receipts for everything and don't keep them in your trailer.  If you make a purchase, even a screwdriver, a hammer or some nails, save the receipt.  Those little things can add up to hundreds of dollars, if not more.

One thing that would help might be a magnetic sign, no specific address on it of course.  That way you could park it when you need to without waving a red flag about the contents.

Also Peter, don't ever take for granted that your trailer is safe in your driveway.  I live in a safe area but one of my neighbors, who is a professional photographer, had his vehicle broken into in his driveway in the middle of the night.  We all own homes with better windows and insulation.  In cold weather you may not hear anything in the middle of night.

Didn't mean to lecture or get off topic.  I am sure that you well aware of what I mentioned in this Post.

I wish you well.

Neill
