Festool Color Sample

The last several Festool tools I've bought from McFeeley's have included just such a sticker with my name on it for the Systainer. Or are you all referring to something else?

Ron, I know the guy that came up with the idea and started doing those decals at McFeely's.  Ahem.

I was talking about something different.  Think of something more like a bumper sticker size and shape with the logo and the Faster, Easier, Smarter tag line.  Of course, there may be multiple sizes and that's just an example.  I was just looking for feedback.  Thanks.

Edit: BTW, I hooked the OP up with some literature for color samples.  We need to see some photos of what you did!

I had Sherwin Williams color match the "gray" or "beige" part of a systainer.  I'm making some sysports.  It's a spot on match.  Anyhoo, I could snap a picture of the lid on the can of paint for the color-match specs if you want.

I'd like to see a few pics of the sysports when you are done. Have any plans to post them when done, or even in progress?

I haven't started yet.  Going to make 3 of them.  Have slides and 3/4" ply.  Still need 1/2" BB for the tray bottoms and castors.  It's a good November project.  Will post pictures when done for sure.  I'll keep you toasted.

Shane,
Ask your ad agency for the PMS values for the colors they used. PMS (Panatone Matching System) is still the printing standards and pretty easily matched in PhotoSHop and other advanced  photo processing softwar.

I have the Pantone colors.  I have provided them to the OP and he said that Sherwin Williams and other paint shops didn't know what Pantone was. It's used primarily in the print industry, not in paint.  Not sure what the color system is for paint.  Probably CMYK.  Most paint shops can color match from a sample.

I took in a green latch from a systainer to Lowes and that matched it perfectly.

I did almost the same thing (Canadian Tire rather than Lowes), with the same good results.

Here's the Sherwin Williams info for "Festool Gray":

Neil,

You brought up a very valid point.  Tradesmen always have to walk the line between advertising and not if they have a truck or trailer.  I have posted in other forums regarding the question and the response has been mixed.  I realize that I do not gain all the business I want by not using signage on vehicles.  I have only left my trailer on a job overnight twice since 2001.  I didn't sleep either night.  Others do it all the time and don't worry about it.  That's what insurance is there for.  Invest what I have in tools and then look at the insurance cost - you basically pay for the tools in insurance costs in 5 years.  Then deal with the hassle of the claim, etc., not worth it in my book.  That being said, I would never put a Festool sticker on any of my vehicles.

I would however like to use the Festool logo on marketing / website / etc. to provide emphasis on the fact that I care about my clients and their home and their health by using tools that provide excellent dust collection, faster results, etc.

I might be in the minority but that is ok.  Just like I would name my dogs Kapex, Domino, Rotex, but would draw the line at RAS 115 or KS-PS.  By the way we have Rotex, Kapex, Deltex, etc.  Why wasn't the Domino called the Dominex?  ??? ??? ???

Peter, some of the more enterprising thugs/robbers not only canvass neighborhoods looking for places to rob, they also comb through advertisements in various publications including those posted on the internet.  They can use Google and other search engines to search for contractors that use Festool products.  Thus, it seems to me that any "before the contract" promotion that publicizes the fact that you use Festool products to keep the jobsite clean will attract some of the thieves, provided they are sophisticated enough to know about Festool products.  Some of the thieves are bold enough to canvass neighborhoods and come and take whatever they can from anyone who leaves their garage door open.  My former boss had his lawn tractor stolen right out of his garage in broad daylight while he was working in his back yard.  He lived in a very upscale, exclusive neighborhood with other corporate senior executives.

So I have a question.  Why would I advertise for someone with no return on my end?  I pay dearly for my tools, as the rest of us do.  I'm not going to advertise for free.  Call me a rotten SOB, but I don't see Festool giving anything away, so why should I give away ad space or exposure?  I see that they get a benefit, but what benefit do I get?  I only see a downside, and that being an increased target for thieves.  Now if I were a dealer, advertising would be a different story.  Otherwise, I view painting my shop in Festool colors as fanatical and foolish.  I can understand enthusiasm and such, but this sounds like painting something the color of a sports team, that I don't play for...

Also, if you painted your shop in these colors, how would you see anything?

John,

In reading this post I didn't see anyone from Festool asking anyone to advertise for them.  I asked if I could use their logo in marketing and they said no.

As to the color, I personally happen to love the color.  In fact I was watching the Barrett Jackson Auction on tv the other week and was quite attracted to the Dodge / Chrysler cars from the 1970's that were painted Sub-Lime Green.  Call me crazy!  [eek]

regarding tradesman advertising

One of the key reasons I do much of the work myself is I work to a very much higher standard than most tradesmen, I've let in my house.

I like Festool because it makes it easier for my to hit the desired quality.  My work and spare time for my hobby fluctuate wildly...

Spent a few hours at a local Festool day.  Learnt some interesting ideas, including some from a local tradesman.  I now have his business card.

If I need some work done this guy will be top of the list, for knowledge, attitude and tools.  Maybe I'm an unusual potential client...

I find it difficult to imagine, how someone using Festool could be as inaccurate as some of the tradesmen.  One Plasterer thought he was good  if he was square +/- 10%....

Sit Rotex, sit!    ;D

(I had a husky that was nuts, he'd run around like crazy and never stop.  Come to think of it, Rotex could have been a good name for him)

You say you would not pay to advertise the Festool brand name but do you pay extra to wear clothing that advertises a brand name of company on the clothing you buy? We all do it everyday.
I'm proud to help a company that provides me with a product that makes not only my job easier but also makes me money. I don't like to advertise something I don't like especially when it makes my work harder or more complex. I will gladly and proudly display the name of Festool as long as they continue to provide me with exceptional tools to do my job.
Festool tools are not cheap but I prefer to use something I can depend on that are not cheaply made.

+1 as a fan and a tool enthusiast i enjoy spreading the name. i dont care if im not getting anything in return. i can see why others dont want to ad for free also. People flaunt designer brands anyway they can with clothing/cars/shoes/material goods and i view tools as no different. I mean if its that big a deal to you then dont do it. if you enjoy the brand/fan then do as you please. Im not a fan of "well whats good in it for me" attitude with anything...esp when no one is asking you to do them a favor...but thats just me.
