Festool CT handle - a consumable?

The boom arm on my CT36 recently started swinging uncontrollably and I identified the problem - the boom arm tube slides into a slot/recess in the plastic dust fitting holder at the bottom of the vac. Somehow the tabs inside this slot/recess which keep the tube from rotating had caved in. Doesn't seem like a very robustly designed solution as the boom arm carries a lot of weight and the plastic tabs inside the tool holders are tiny. Anyway.

We found an easy solution: move the boom arm to the opposite side recess/slot. I can't believe I didn't think of this. (The boom arm can be mounted in either the 1st or 4th tool holder position.) Problem solved, but...

Before we discovered this solution, E from Festool Support noted the Boom Arm Handle (495802) is considered a "consumable" and, like other consumables such as abrasives, are not covered under the standard Festool warranty. I had a tough time digesting that a fairly rugged handle, part of the $390 boom arm kit, would be considered a temporary item in need of frequent replacement.

Has anyone experienced any surprise "that's a consumable" responses from Festool?

Absurd! That the handle is not covered under warranty is one thing, but to consider it a consumable is just ridiculous. Sorry,  Festool Support, NO soup for you!

They were mistaken. Festool classifies it as an accessory, not a consumable. Regardless, only tools are covered by warranty.

Hmm, I am probably misunderstanding or I am forgetting something, but...

The boom arm is kept from rotating 360 degrees by a knob/bolt that screws into the two longer tubes where they fit together. 

The male end fits inside the female end and the bolt with the black plastic knob on the end screws in to keep the two tubes together and to keep the boom arm from swiveling 360 degrees.

You are correct, but when I tightened that particular bolt it still swang. That’s when I discovered the tabs below had collapsed. The entire unit, both tubes, rotated.

Rather than start a new thread,I have a CT 26.The boom arm is held in position on the handle by a black "connector" that is screwed together on the handle and a wire to hold it tight against the handle.

From there the botton tube of the boom arm sets into a male plastic thing ( i dont know what to call it) thats screwed on the bottom rear of the CT. Though it has about 5 positions to place the boom arm, I like keeping mine in the middle one. It broke. So Im using another one it works good.  Does anyone know if festool sells that piece separately ? Does anyone have apart number for it?

I got my ct26 as soon as it became available in the Netherlands.  At the time, the part you mention was available seperately as a "nozzle holder" and I ordered it as such (I didn't need the boom arm for the ct26, I had gotten one for my old ct22).
There's a picture of it in the review I did, but only the thumbnails still work, (I'm looking for the original picture, maybe I can zoom in on the box) link to review

I'm trying to find it in ekat, but I'm not having much succes.
I think it's called ZBA-D CT26/36 with partnumber 496373, but when I click on that description, I get the drawing for the boom arm, without a partnumber for the plastic part you need (only voor the screws and nuts to attach it.)

/edit changed partnumber, 496369 had "set" in the name, so I guess it would come with the nozzles.

I checked EKAT but couldnt find a P/N either.
Funny they showed in the drawing of the entire CT but there was no call out (P/N) for it. I wonder if they sell it as part of the  assembly and dont have a replacement part.

I was told by Festool the nozzle holder cannot be purchased separately, you must get the entire handle assembly which was more than $100 if I recall correctly.
