Couple of thoughts:
- I don't know what attachment I would use to handle carpets and rugs with a CT. My Miele (as do most home vacs, I believe) have controls to adjust the height of the brush mechanism to handle thicker/shorter pile carpet. I guess you could jury rig a CT hose to such a powerhead/tube.
- decent home vacs will have a control to allow you to control suction power where you hold the wand.
- decent home vacs are easily extendable (and then retractable) when working with high spots. The tubes that came in my Festool cleaning set would be a pain in the butt to have to connect/disassemble very often.
- the rubber on the end of the hoses (that I have for my two CT-36s and mini, anyways) are made with a compound that appears to easily mar surfaces like hardwood and painted walls. I left black marks everywhere when I carelessly used it to suck up christmas tree needles this year. It's like they made the rubber out of black crayons. Yes, I know this wouldn't happen if I used a proper head, but sometimes it's just not handy for a quick cleanup. The black marks rub off easily from my hardwood; not so easily from the walls. Not sure what the designers were thinking of there. I definitely wouldn't use it near white sofas, drapes, walls or carpet.
I have 3 CTs. At home I keep a mini and a Miele home vacuum and while I'd love to be able to make do without the home vac, it's just much nicer to use: lighter, lower center of gravity, and quieter; with the adjustments all easily at hand.
