Is there a new and an old style CXS battery? One of the batteries that shipped with my CXS a few years ago flashes red when trying to recharge. It is the original style that is roughly L-shaped - a three inch part inserts into the drill and the rest attaches to the bottom of the drill. In searching for a replacement battery, I don't find this style anymore. The new ones seem to lack the L-shape. The one I have is 10.8V 1.3 Ah and I think the replacement has different specs. But the one I have is desireable because it is really light.

The stem no longer exists on these batteries but the new ones are compatible with your drill. The new style shouldn't weigh anymore but they are slightly higher capacity.

Can the new battery be charged in the old charger?

And one review I've read indicated the new battery no longer fits in the old systainer mold.

Thank you, Shane. That cleared up my confusion.  Plus glad to know it's called the stem.

That is true.  If you install the new battery on the drill, the drill will not fit in the systainer because the battery is too wide.  Otherwise, it works fine.  But, unless they give me a new tray, I have to take out the battery out before storing the drill.

I will tell you that I replaced my original CSX's old style batteries with the new style "when it was time" and the run time was impressive improved over what I was actually already pleased with. These are tough little drills. My second one came with the new style already, so everything matches. The same charger is compatible with both, so that's nice, too.
