On the latest episode of TOH,  Tom Silva uses a myriad of Festools to finish some cellar stairs.

Tools included:

TI-15 Impact Driver
Jigsaw (couldn't tell if it was Trion or Carvex)
TS55 Saw
MFT/3 Table
OF 2200 Router
Domino (he called them "small wood tenons")
RO150 Sander

7 Festools shown  in a 4 minute segment,  pretty good for a show sponsored by.... Dewalt.  Well worth a look see..  It starts 16:21 in:

Ya I saw that, must have got special "dispensation" from Dewalt.
I think it or the previous episode also featured a segment on coping. It's a good episode for anyone wanting to understand where and how to cope.

I think Darcy from Warner Cons. Just fell in love with the almost 2foot wide jointer at the frame mill demo... [tongue]

LOL, ya funny I thought that too.
I am sure he's on the road getting one now. [wink]

I have seen the Festools sneaking in on TOH and ATOH.

Maybe there were Dewalt tools that could handle the entire installation or PBS is more sensitive to product placement and trying to appear more independent.

Me thinks the Dewalt sponsorship contract is coming up soon and therefore we see a lot more useful tools on the show.

Shane, maybe a TOH "powered by Festool" is in the mix?!?!

;)

I'm not familiar with the status of the sponsorship of the shows, but we are not sponsors. When you see them using our tools, it's because it's what they like to use. Honestly, I prefer it that way.

I to have been seeing a lot more festools, and not just in the background .
I find it interesting that a show that is paid to use a tool, consistently reaches for festool.
Or has the systainers and kapex in the background .
Says a lot about festool. And they have to buy them, not sponsored.

I saw a recent one where he was using a festool track saw to size a door, but my goodness that rail looked abused with saw marks. Not the kind of care I try to take of my tools.

Regardless its good to see the green at TOH, and I agree with Shanes sentiment that the genuine tool use and display is far more valuable than a show sponsorship.

Pretty awesome to hear, especially if they are in fact sponsored by DeWalt.  I wonder if DeWalt is aware.  Seems like a big time conflict of interest, but a really awesome nod to the boys in green.

It's funny, last season you never saw them use anything but yellow tools,  you would see systainers stacked next to a CT in the background but they never were shown using them.  Now this season, the yellow tools are gone and Festools back on the scene.  I wonder if their contract with Dewalt is up now or Tom and Nahm just couldn't stand it anymore?

I see Richard using Festool drills about half the time. For a while the yellow tools were much more prominent. The last episode I saw Tom and Nahm were routing baluster with the 2200. I hadn't seen as many systainers in one place since visiting Festool in Lebanon. Something is going on. I agree with Shane, having the tools used because they want to use them instead of because they are being payed to do so is much better. of course, I am sure a lot of folks assume they are provided by Festool for promotional purposes.

The Bandsaw was a Frank Clement and the jointer was a 20" Frank Clement as well.  I just so happen to have that exact same jointer sitting in my shop.

That tables are near 26" wide.  That guy had some nice pieces.

Does anyone make a jointer that big anymore?

Geeesh! How many guys could say, "Nah, I already got that one." !!! [not worthy]

What do you think about where he used glued in Dominos?  I've never built any finished stairs before but I'd be worried about splitting with that cross-grained glue up.
