Yes, with limitations. It'll definitely do veneer edging, and it will handle edging up to 3mm thick, so as long as your timber edge is flexible enough it should be OK. A place I used to work had a stationary edge bander, and we put 3mm oak through that OK...

The machine must be smaller than it looks - says it comes in a sys4.

I had assumed it wouldn't come in a systainer, since; a) it's more of a 'production' machine, rather than something you'd take on-site, and b) I thought it would be too big to fit in even a sys5.

Unless it's just the accessories that come in the sy4?

Its actually quite a compact unit. Both the Edge bander itself, and the accessories come in a SYS4.

After seeing it late Friday afternoon, I was quite impressed with it for the intended purposes it would be best suited. Which, for the owner who purchased it, is doing complex curves etc on worktops and the like. Its never going to replace a stationary edge bander which can devour copious amounts of banding.
But as Festool usually does, right tool for the right application.

Yeah I know , the lc is about £130 in the UK but £80 stateside.

I'm being tight lol I can justify £80 for a toolbag but not £130

I personally can't see a need in my arsenal for this edgebander but certainly see Festool's logic of bringing this to market - even in North America - based on their approach of bringing the tool to the work.  This will allow mid segment operations to offer different products and ancillary services as well is offering a superior end product where edge banding is consistently adhered for the long term.

I know that Jonny Round Boy searched for trademarks and posted his findings earlier, but I hope that this introduction is an indication that a Festool vacuum clamping system is coming to North America.  Maybe the pump doesn't have to be permanently in a Systainer.  Perhaps it could be sized to be put into a Systainer just like most of the other Festool products.

While I don't have a need for this tool.....yet. I would say that this looks like a good machine and puts festool back on track developing high end tools. Personally I've been disappointed with many of their most recent offerings, such as the carvex and the Ti15 and even the new req. This, however appears to be of professional quality. Interested to see it up close

Yep +1 I have only had a quick go with it, but it does really look like a proper bit of kit,I think they will sell loads of them and if there are more innovative products in the pipeline it would show they have raised their game..

Does anyone else have a portable edgebander and can share their experiences?

I've wanted an edgebander since forever, but never had the space (or funds) for a fixed edgebander. The heat gun versions (like Virutex) always worried me because of bad experiences with heat guns burning out I did look briefly into the Adamik and Lematic options.

It will be interesting to see how reliable the heating element will be in the Contura - it's new ground for Festool? And what about the running costs of the glue versus setups like the Adamik/Lematic variety? Anyone here with practical experience of the units?
