Hello all,
I recently acquired a ETS 125 REQ sander and have been experiencing some issues using 3M Cubitron XTract sandpaper. I've read many posts on this forum of similar issues which were caused by not having a protective pad or the dust extractor set too high, which I don't believe is the case here. I suspect the 3M XTract sandpaper may be too aggressive for the 125 REQ.
I have a CT26 set to the lowest suction, as well as having the protective pad, and still feel that the sander is difficult to control. The pad is not spinning on the surface. I also tried with the extractor turned off with the same issue. I hold the sander in one hand and the hose in the order to ensure the sander lays flat on. It's pretty bad when I'm using 120 grit, and performs a bit better with 180 grit. 240 grit seems to work well. I have a cheaper Bosch 5" sander and it works great with that sandpaper.
The interesting part is the 125 REQ seems to work great when using cheap, regular aluminum oxide sandpaper (120-240 grit). I get a really smooth finish with barely visible scratch marks.
I'm wondering if anyone has had any issues with using lower grits (120-180) of 3M Xtract with the 125 REQ? I understand that this is a finish sander, but more curious as to why it works with normal sandpaper, and not the 3M Xtract.
Thanks in advance!
