Festool Feedback/Market Research/Product Management

Unless things have changed from the time that I interviewed for a Sales Manager position, and I doubt that they have, previous tool experience is not required for a Sales Manager Job. It may help, but a job history strong in Vendor relationships is primary. Their training is designed to help overcome the previous lack of tool knowledge.

Unfortunately a search just now didn't show an open position for a Sales Manager position here in the US.

Years ago, I submitted an idea to Zippo, the cigarette lighter people. They first considered the idea in a group meeting. Once they thought the idea had merit, they contacted a firm that does consumer testing of the idea. These tests were done by an outside firm, and are usually (were usually) done in a small back room at major shopping malls.

And while I still think the concept was a good fit for Zippo, the testing was not sufficiently positive for them to proceed.

For retail projects, I would assume that similar processes are performed. However, it is clear from what I’ve seen that some companies take short cuts in the development process, so they might skip that entirely.

Back in the late 1970s, I was attending a Housewares show in Chicago. A company was showing an early version of the Chip Clip. My reaction: “That is the dumbest idea I have ever seen.” Proof-positive that working from opinions, instead of data is fraught with risk.
