Just a thought...

Have any of you guys given any thought to having regional a "Festool Fest"?  Basically, look for someone to volunteer their home/shop to host a meet of others who own Festool or are interested in Festool.  It would be an opportunity to socialize and share ideas and techniques.  Maybe even a little BBQ and the like.  How many people would be willing to get together for such an event?

My brother runs a forum (for trucks) and they do these types of events and they seem quite popular.

Yes, Shane, that is a cool idea. I have a local woodworker group who tries to get together once a month and I am hosting next fest...but it is not Festool but woodworking in general...although they may be blinded by Systainers.
I don't know how far people will travel for such an event.

Shane

I just had one today for my uninitiated friends. Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate and the group was small but we still had a good time

Tools that impressed them the most were the sander/vac, followed by the TS 55 saw.

If the tools were available in Canada (from someone other then Hafele) I know they'd be buying them tomorrow.

One of the moderators for the Wood magazine forum on Dust Collection was an attendee and he wore a black jacket specifically to see if he could see sawdust.. The Rotex using 36 grit left a tiny, tiny bit and he was very impressed!

I would love that. I was waiting until Toyota's visitor center opened up, then I was going to invite whoever wanted to come by, cookout, tour the HUGE Toyota plant, talk some Festool, maybe someone could show me how to use them.  ;D I also know that Lebanon IN. is around 3 hours away, so when it comes up, any Festool employees are welcome. I just don't know when the visitors center will open.

It looks like it is less than 2 hours from the Hartford area. I'd certainly be interested.

I think at this point there are enough Festool guys out there that we should be able to round up hosts in about every state that would be willing to participate.  I have no doubts that there are Festool employees that would be willing to attend.  I think the key is to have someone willing to host and pick a date and roll with it.  Even if there are 4-5 guys it would make for a good time IMO.

Rob, I would probably be willing to head your way for one with a few stacks o' green  :)  (even without the plant tour).

Again, if there's enough interest, there will be a dozen or more Festool employees at IWF in Atlanta in August.  I would like very much to get together and have lunch and talk tools with some of you guys if you are attending.

IWF sounds great too. I have never been to that one, but I have seen the woodworking show in Indy, and had a good time there.

Shane,

I would be willing to host one in Eastern PA (17901) I don't have a huge selection FT's but have the basics.
TS75 2-mft's, ct22, 3 or 4 sanders, jig saw, 1400, LR 32 system, rails etc.

Actually I've been trying to get Fred & Timmy C. to visit but I think there on to my plan of building cabinates for the shop and now know it's just an invite to a "work camp"  ;D ;D ;D

Scott W.

Guess I'll have to go to Plan B.

Any other guys out there in PA willing to hike it to Scott's pad?  What if I checked to see if we could send a little Festool swag out to you guys that attend?

Got a date in mind, Scott?

Well, I believe that Lincoln Hardwood and Tool Company, Home of FestoolJunkie.com could certainly round up some Festool Tools and Accessories, Perhaps some Festool Folks, and I certainly could round up the grills for Brats, Burgers and all the fixin's with a big' ole parking lot at our disposal.  Not to mention, I have good connections for lodging and such.  We would love to host the "Inaugural Midwest Regional Festool Fest ..... How does August 23rd, 2008 sound?

I am not sure that I can get the Blue Angels, but I do have friends that are Crop Dusters....perhaps they could do a couple of Fly-By's

Hi,

I would like to host a get together.  I am pretty much dead center in NY State. I will PM guys that I know are in a reasonable day trip driving distance.  But as much as I am on this forum I don't keep track of where everybody lives so please PM me also if you are willing to make a pilgrimage  to Zip 13026. Don't be offended or put off if you don't get a PM from me. It just means that I am a moron and forgot how close you are, and that you should contact me.  Further distances would be welcome also.   So yes this is an invite. Start PM ing, and I will get to work on a date and details.

I'm pretty flexible weekends now thru mid July (last two weekends in July are booked) then again in August.

I can also come up with the BBQ  :) :)

So that we can try to maximum the publicity of these meets, I can include them in the SysNotes newsletter this month and I'll see if we can get Matthew to pin the threads so they remain in good view.  Maybe start a thread for each one so guys in each area can communicate and coordinate.  Thoughts?

As these get firmed up, the hosts can shoot me an email or PM and I'll see what we can do to send you out a few goodies.  In return, some good photos and stories from each event would be appreciated.

Thanks to the guys who have already offered to host events!

That's just not play'n fair.... how can we compete with crop dusters?  ;) ;) ;D

Shane,

On another note somewhat related. I think it would be really cool if Festool (with the help of users) could do a Habitat for Humanity house - or at least participate in one. It would be some work to coordinate but the publicity could sell some tools...

I'm not sure those of us from Buffalo country (CO) are allowed in Husker nation so close to football season.
