Festool FS Bag (Any reviews/comments?)

Hi Woodguy

Tried your chaps, and just about every other dealer in the UK and they said they couldn't do the deal on the bag and parallel guides as the promotion had ended. This is despite the fact that Festool UK still show the offer on their website!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:(

Anyhow got the bag and it arrived today and man you can fit a lot of kit in it.

So I now have a standard Festool Rail Bag feeling very neglected and wanting a new owner!

http://www.festool.co.uk/products/accessories/pages/detail.aspx?pid=466357&name=accessories-for-guide-rails-fs-bag

If anyone wants to PM me with sensible offers I will let it go or it will banished to the Ebay listings on Sunday.

Its great condition, no tears to the fabric, clean as a whistle and still has its little plastic Festool zip tags.

Thanks for your help chaps, good advice

Regards

Guy

Glad your pleased with the new one Guy, out of interest what are you gonna fit in it?
I guess every owner will find new and interesting ways to fill it. [laughing] [laughing]

Anyone want to post some pictures of the big bag and what you carry in it?

Okay then....

Top section Two FS1400's

I am also considering storing my six 1mtr long router bars in there too!

It's the FS800 that I bought after trying to trim a newel post with a 1400 rail, it waggled a lot and needed clamping and still tryed to flap about. [laughing]

I mentioned in an earlier post the other bits I store in there,
I carry two FS1400's in the outer rail case, the contents from the FS Guide systainer kit, the parrallel guides, FS800, my 1mtr and 600mm steel rules, two 300mm cork faced clamps, the jigsaw guide rail adapter and still have room for more bits.

But I keep finding more bits to store in there [wink].

At the moment I store a FS1400 and LR32/FS1080 in the toprail flap, (the 1080 will go soon and I will get the LR32/FS1400), in the top of the base I have the 2 x guide rail connectors, a FS800 rail and Festool screwdriver purely for connector rails.

In the sections at the bottom are 4 x FS-HZ clamps, 2 x MFT-SP clamps for a small home made MFT which goes to site with me, PS 300 guide rail base, and a Trend "Perfect Butt" scribe set.

The parrallel guides and extensions are on the wish list but I am sure other stuff will move in over time. I might see if the Trend worktop jig fits in on the next kitchen refurb, although the parrallel guide extensions will cause a problem with that if its in the base section.

Ideas anyone?

Never tried it or seen it. Know the Trend jig and am happy with it so would need a lot of persuading of its benefits against its cost to move up to it.

Really can justify the MFK700, Parallel Guides and Extension, Kapex, CT26, Tradesmans Cleaning Kit, MFS700, MFS400, ...............etc, etc, etc,  [scared], before the Festool Worktop jig.

Does anyone recommend it above the Trend jig??

Bad news for us North American folk.  I found out the other day that the FS-BAG-PA "the big bag" is not going to be sold here.  They gave them to 5 testers in this country and all 5 gave negative feedback.  I don't care as I still want one.

That is a bummer... what to do with the parallel guides?  ... sigh...

What really surprises me is that the "new" rail-only bag seems to be a downgrade from the older bag.  The older one opened on the side, and had the big pocket with a flap that holds a FS800.  I've also stuck a FS1080 out of that pocket and been perfectly happy with it.  Recently acquiring a LR32-1400 rail, I was curious if I could get all my rails in that bag. Currently its sitting with 3x1400 rails inside, and the FS800 in the pocket.  I didn't want to risk the splinterguard or friction tape by mashing the 1080 in the pocket, too.

That's four rails in the bag.  I don't think the new one can do that.  (can it??)  And the newer one feels like thinner fabric... Just my observation and opinions...

I was told the 5 testers didn't like the lack of durability of the big bag.  What were they doing?  Dragging it behind their trucks at highway speeds?

When my bag arrived it was in a cardboard box that had come from Germany and the total weight shown was 10 kilo's. I would imagine having just paid GBP35-19p to ship a parcel weighing 2.40kilo's to NAINA land the cost of 10 kilo's would be mind blowing.

Do you folks now anyone in the military (USAF) over in the UK? Do they get good postage rates via USAF transport? Would they be allowed to send stuff like this or would that be frowned on [unsure].

I am just thinking outside of the box or the bag in this case [big grin].

As for durability I personally think the fabric is better than the old rail bag, it is certainly more effective at carrying kit.

I cant beleive it is not available in NAINA land. If there was a FOG poll indicating a likelihood of purchases would Festool allow a limited shipment for confirmed numbers to NAINA!

Shane is that a question you could put to the Festool USA exec's that said no?

That , Guy, is a very valid question. There have been a number of our American cousins who have expressed a desire to purchase this product, most of whom already own the Parallel guides. Not only on this forum but others too.
We, as Festool customers, look at our purchases as investments in our future earnings (those of us that earn our living from them, and I dare say those who buy for their own/hobby use feel pretty much the same) so why not provide the means of protecting, storing and safely transporting these products?
Maybe the items won't produce a profit straight off, but, the P.R and goodwill to Festools existing North American customers would, surely, pay dividends.
Just my take on the subject, and I have a parallel view on the CMS 'NAINA' status.

Rob & Guy,

I think only Christian would be able to reverse Festool's decision and I don't see that happening.  I didn't dig deep enough to find out who the 5 testers were, didn't feel it was worth it and I can't be sure that they were a good sampling of us in NA.  I do believe that in future testing decisions by Festool, they should consider including the FOG members heavily.  Understandably it's about them profiting from the sales, supply and demand.  Now what I'd really like to know is if I go out 200 miles into international waters, can I get a Festool dealer from Europe to deliver all the good stuff without violating the terms of sale.  Anyone want to help me row?

Bummer!  Thing looks awesome.  If you and I and everyone else in this thread had been the testers then maybe the result would have been different.

Has anyone tried to use a snowboard bag for transporting rails and profiles ?

hmm. And here I am with a two-board bag and no snow for miles! what to do, what to do. Thanks for an awesome idea, I'm gonna stow the board in cobweb alley and put that bag to use. might even fit my 1900.

It seems odd to me that some of these NAINA products, especially the non-electric ones, can't be shipped over here as quarterly specials. Festool could ship over 100 X from time to time. Maybe I'm the moron here but I'm guessing that Festool ships a container or two of the regular stuff over on a regular basis. There's no room in one of those containers to throw in say 100 X. Post limited availability of item X on the US Festool site, the FOG and watch the stuff sell out. Seems like a rather inexpensive way to move some extra product, test the waters and satisfy customer needs. This type of scenario should be relatively easy. Unless Festool is one of those Corp's that has so many layers to work through for any little change or deviation.
Knowing my people that could be. On the other hand, knowing my people that should be perceived as a problem to overcome.

Re my previous post, it is amazing what was done with the FOGtainers by this Forum so why doesn't someone in NAINA land put up a poll on this Forum to find out how many FOG users would purchase one of these bags, and see if you can work something from it.

Believe me it is a great storage/carriage bag and not just for rails. I have looked at the cost of postage to the US and as they are 10kg in the cardboard box it works out at over GBP140 for NAINA "blockade busting" so that is just a non starter.

Consumer pressure is the only way to go.
