Festool FS Bag (Any reviews/comments?)

I may be out of my mind, but I found a dealer from the UK on ebay willing to sell me the "big bag" so I bought it!  It cost me 110 pounds plus 40 pounds shipping incl. VAT weighing 5 lbs. shipped UPS AIR and I just received a letter from UPS telling me I owe $15.32 duty taxes as well.  This is one expensive bag!  $180 + $65 US + duty = $260.  Anyone over here interested, think about that before you go for one!!!

Can the bag be rolled up, or is there an insert that keeps it rigid?  My mother travels to Europe at least once a year, and I'm thinking she may have to pick one up for me the next time she's there.  If it won't fold or roll to fit in a suitcase, that's a futile effort though.

Bob you may be able to fold it but it is quiet stiff, it has sections in side attached with Velcro so theres no problem folding them flat then you might be able to fold it but I wouldn't wanna guarantee the state of it when it reaches you.

Bob, the bag I got can't be folded up because there are stiff cardboard/plastic inserts slid into the cover and divider that run the length of the case and there are individual dividers inside that you'd have to detach the velcro and remove all of them, then lay them flat.

I started this thread off and no feel pretty bad making you guys in NAINA land envious at not being able to get these bags as they are sooooo...... useful and worth the price.

I have researched the astronomical cost of shipping to NAINA land but it is way, way too expensive due to the 10.5 kilo weight of the bag and packaging.

I did suggest a couple of options, military postage (if thats possible, a few USAF bases left here) or a poll from FOG members in NAINA land to try and get a fixed number perhaps shipped in by Festool USA if they were all paid for prior to delivery, but the suggestions seemed to die a death.

It will not fold up, the whole point of the new bag and it usefulness is due to it being a rigid carry case for your rails and such.

I have the big bag I bought it with the parallel guides.I think the bag is well worth the asking price,and I find it imposable to believe that festool USA would base their decision on whether to import or not, on 5 testers,bizare.......... can Shane throw some light on this?

this bag has to be sold in the States not to offer it would just be maddness.

So before this war of attrition on poor old Shane starts, is he the one who decides what does and doesn't get let in to NAINA land, or are we just ganging up on the wrong bloke.

I notice he hasn't posted on this thread so is he just keeping his head down and hoping it will go away or is it someone else in Festool USA that won't play ball? (Or Bag in this case) [tongue]

As Ken pointed out Shane isn't the person in charge of this sort of thing.  Truth is I'd hate to ask Festool (Rick Bush) to do something like this.  They have made their decision about this product based on opinions of testers.  Since all of the testers came to some conclusion I'm going to trust Festool USA made the right choice here.

The fabulous Festool FS Bag does not seem to have any UL related issues, so why is it NAINA?

I am hardly an executive of Festool USA so I do not get a vote. It seems to me that many of the USA dealers do follow FOG. If I were a USA dealer I would be constantly asking my Festool representative for the FS bags, and I would be sending frequent messages to the top executives.

Possibly the FS bags are not for everyone. It just seems that if only 5 folks got to try them in the USA, then possibly those were not so carefully selected?

Lost me on that one Peter, I would imagine wherever you may be the facility to transport valuable and delicate accessories in a protective medium would be the same, or am I missing something.

As the OP I thought as a fellow FOG member I could steer you guys in NAINA land to a really efficient and effective piece of equipment that is in use in Europe, and that by pressing the right people you might be able to persuade them to bring it over, but it looks like the desire to do that is not there.

I would love one of these.  If it ever shows up over here I'd almost certainly get one.  The parallel guides just hanging out (literally) doesn't suit me.  And I have enough rails and accessories now that I've far outgrown the older, flat, rail bag (I've got four rails stuffed into it).

But, as you've pointed out Guy, for a single unit the shipping is a killer.  [sad]
