During refurbishment projects, as much as you love using new timber... From time to time you've got to work with the old stuff. It's got to be painted, loved and sanded and painted oh, sanded a little more....

Well, on one of my visits to my local FESTOOL dealer (Elliots Tools) one of the FESTOOL guys was their and I managed to get some Granat sand paper from him. It comes in a massive box of strips - sorts of 100mm x 80mm and about 10mm thick - because of the sponge backing.

Well, I was given two 250G and two 600G. I didn't think he was being very generous - trust me he said... Well, those two small bits of paper have held up to post sanding a lot of paint in awkward areas and have not torn, worn out or clogged. Well, when they did clog I just flicked my finger against it - ready to go again.

It's lovely to use in your hand - as you don't go through it and end up sanding wood/paint with your fingers.

Those four are STILL going strong - ok, not as good as they were, but normally, I 'd be through a heap of normal sandpaper. It's very good stuff. Not sure how well it would work as a normal abrasive on a Rotex or similar.

I was VERY impressed by such a simple thing. Worked great on Dulux Satinwood and Dulux undercoat on top of MDF as well as normal timber.

Paul.

down side - you've got to buy a massive amount of it.

Paul, this stuff seems pretty cool. You have any pictures of it? How well does the regular Granat discs hold up?
