This weekend I was cleaning our house and using a Hoover Floormate for the hardwood floors, and a Hoover HEPA vac for the carpets... why couldn't Festool offer something in this market? Seems that they have an Apple like design sensibility that many people appreciate... and their tools have a following, but are viewed by outsiders as overpriced (much like Macs). Seems like a hepa home vac or floor cleaner could be popular, and be their "iPod" that brings them out of just tools to home as well.

Or maybe I just need a CT midi to vacuum the stairs... yeah thats it. And a Shinex for the floors. ;D

We use a CT MINI with Universal Cleaning Kit and Turbo Suction Brush to clean the house.

Festool generally doesn't make a product unless it can show a significant improvement over existing products.

Dyson currently OWNS the high end home vacuum market. It would be really difficult for Festool to come out with a product that would significantly improve on the Dysons....which are also in the same price class as Festool products.

As Tom said, you can always drag around a CT, but for dedicated home use, I can't think of how Festool could come up with a better product than the Dysons, other than a similar capable product in Green!

Cheers,

Frank

I had an apartment in Amsterdam that was remodeled right before I moved in. It had all new Miele appliances and they are top notch.

Certainly, when it comes to fitted kitchen appliances, Miele are still regarded as top notch here in the UK.

Having a 10 year warranty does help as well.....!!!!!

I have fitted quite a few over the years, and have always been impressed with their design and build quality, but all this does come at a price! Just like Festool really...... [big grin]

Yeah miele are good quality but i think seimens are close these days although not that much diff in price.

Gaggenau on the other hand, now thats top class with prices to match.

As a high end hardwood floor guy, I use and recommend Miele exclusively for my customers.  There is nothing else close when you consider performance vs. value in the canister market.

I had a Miele several years ago and loved it.  The issue was that parts and bags were ridiculously expensive.  I had to replace the powered head and found it less expensive overall to buy a top-end Riccar which had stronger suction than the Miele.  Riccar bags are far less expensive, too, and they're HEPA-certified.  With two big dogs, it makes quite a difference.

I use 3M replacement bags... They end up being about $1/each.  My older Miele is about 4 years old, only issue I've had is the switch went out within 6 months, was fixed under warranty.  My newer one is about 2 1/2 years old, no issues on that one yet.  I would estimate each one sees roughly 10 hours of use a week, which i would guess is about 10 times as much as what an average homeowner would use it.

The majority of the appliances that I sell are Siemens and  they are very good. But, certainly not the same price as Miele, that's for sure....!!!!

I agree the miele vacuums are great never had any issues with ours and my wife uses it daily for dog hair

Toby where do you get 3M bags for the vac? I'd like to try them

We've also got a washer/dryer and dishwasher love all three and have them spec'd in a new house
Can't say enough good about them like festools not cheap but worth the price

Yeah true but depends on which ones. Just got a siemens fridge freezer and it was only 100 quid less than miele.

I haven't ever considered Miele... will need to check them out next. My wife likes Dyson, but I hate the dust cloud when dumping the bin. Picked up a Hoover HEPA based on good reviews, but she claims the bag vacs have a "smell".

We have the CT22 for the house, my wife loves it.  She says it is the best vacuum we have had.

Our Miele Red Star Canister unit is from 1999.  Other than bags, filters and a check-over about every 5 years, the only thing we've worn out is the powered turbo brush.  The motor just got worn out over time inside of it.  Was our first experience with a HEPA vacuum unit.  Made getting my first CT in 2004 that much easier since I knew my wife would not be coughing from the exhaust air of a really good HEPA vacuum since it's not spewing fine dust all over the place.
Tight, compact storage of tools and many of the attachment tools work with the 27mm hose of Festool quite well.
I use the small round brush from Miele for fast, delicate clean-up before finishing something or applying stain.

We did use a 110v Henry Hoover in the house for a few years

The wife did get the hump dragging the transformer around the house to run it

As everyone's said the quality and innovation of Miele products is outrageous. Ive got a Miele dishwasher and I can fit 2x dishes into and and they get twice as clean as anything I've ever seen... There's even models that open themselves after the clean cycle to help air dry. Their stuffs really slick across the board.

She probably won't care for the Miele then. Like any other bagged vacuum, it develops a smell after a short while. I typically toss the bags when they are 1/4 full for that reason. The Dyson rules the house. I fill the canister and dump it weekly. Is rather not have the air "filtered" through the crud the vacs pick up in the house. No wonder it stinks. Unfortunately the Dyson chokes on the thick pile in the master bedroom, so I keep a bagged vacuum around for that. The Dyson has a lot of fragile plastic bits and pieces. If it lasts 5 years I'll be happy. The Miele reminds me very much of the festool vacs. Same smooth quiet motor. Not the brute suction of the others, but the variable suction does come in handy at times.
