I've owned a Midi and two 125 palm sanders.
The midi is about 4 years old and well taken care of, moderate use.
Stopped working, sent it in for service. The motor and electrical panel needed to be replaced - $250
My filter was pristine, have a hard time believing this was all shot.

The 125s seem to last 2 years for me. I've had to replace the metal flange ($55) a few times when changing the pads as they strip out seemingly instantly. The first time I sent it in and they replaced the flange and the pad, even though the pad was brand new. After my experience, I do not trust the service department.

There are some nice design aspects to their products, but in the end I feel that they should last a whole lot longer.
I have cheaper tools that are more durable.
I am disappointed to come to this conclusion, but I'm moving on.

At two years I would think that would be a warranty replacement?

You don't trust the service department because they fixed the tool and went the extra step of replacing the pad too?

I don't think I follow what happened here  ....................

??? Yeah same here!

Sorry, I was not clear.
2 sanders in 4 years.
first one died at 3yrs 2 months.
Replacing a brand new pad and charging me for it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Troubled by the flange design that allows the threads to be stripped so easy.
Sorry, don't mean to grip, just venting as I hoped for more durability.

As mentioned at the other website, whatever sander you choose, invest in pad protectors.

Pad protectors/Pad savers

An interface disc with hooks on one side and loops on the other that is attached to the pad of the sander and accepts the sanding disc.

First learned of them when I got a Ceros  and it was highly recommended.
Got mine from Mirka but believe Festool also offers them.

If you burn the hook and loop to failure you just change the protector, the sander pad should be fine.

Festool does not offer pad savers, but some of the holes of the 6" Mirka Pad Savers line up with the Festool 6" sanders.

Festool does make thicker interface pads, however.
