Festool knobs

I've got quite a few "experiments" on the go at the moment revolving around Festool tools, and as much for me to have a record as to share information that takes time to pull together, I'll be documenting a few things as I go along. Today it's Festool knobs!  [blink]

When it comes to Festool knobs that would be useful for attachments and jigs, there are really only three sizes that come into play. Let's call them small knob, large knob, and grip.

They come in various sizes and shapes, mostly with M6 and M8 screw threads.

Should you want to acquire some for your projects, the following is a list I have compiled of the various options (including current UK GBP pricing).

Whilst I freely admit they're not the cheapest knobs and grips available, they do all have the Festool logo on them...  [wink]

You could probably get several knobs for price of Festool one, but they wouldn't be Festool ones.

With the Large knob you can pop it open and swap to the length of M6 bolt you need.

or add a nut depending what you need the knob for. I have done both as needed.

Ok. I have a couple of the 482110 knobs, which according the post above should be the large knob. I don’t see any hole on it to pop it open and replace the bolt. Any ideas?

These knobs are made out of two pieces that have a snap lock to hold them together. Check the knob and you will see that there is a recess along whole diameter. In one place there is deeper recess. Take a flat screwdriver, insert it until it will reach an inside stop and twist it. It will pop open your knob and you will get access to the screw.

Not the exact same knob, but you should get the idea. There is a line around the circumference of the knob where the two pieces separate, and at one point on that circumference, you will see a slot into which you can insert a small blade to pop the cover off. Circled in red.

Yep, those are the little slits I have in mine too.

I guess I can’t do that with my knob. It’s a large knob, according to the part number at the top of this post, but it doesn’t have that slot.

I need (4) M6x30mm knobs. I am making an attachment for my Vac Sys so I brought the part numbers that were shown in the Festool drawing but the screws I got are too short. Either the part numbers are wrong or they changed them since the drawing was issued. The ones I received are 15mm in length. I’ve got to go thru (2) 1/2” plywood and the nut is 9mm. So I’m thinking 30mm or so should be a good length to hold it to the side of my MFT table. I tried calling Festool yesterday and was transferred around for almost 3 hours and got no assistance.

In this case it will be much faster if you get them from Mcmaster because M6 knobs are widely available and very well priced.

Just confirm the Length of the stud (other stud length are available too) and knob head clearance ( these above have 57mm head diameter and 20mm head height.

A few other people have had the same issue. It's suggested that 486202 is the better part number.
