Festool USA has announced that it will be discontinuing the LS 130 linear profile sander. There is no mention of a potential future replacement. This is a great sander, I own one. If it's on your list, you may want to snag one before they're gone. Festool will not be accepting any new orders, so once we sell out we cannot get more.

Accessories, consumables, and support for the LS-130 will continue to remain available except for the LS-130 Scraper (491199), which is also discontinued and sold out.

Thanks,
Shane

Check out the phenomenal review from Paul-Marcel below. Note that the video shows the Classic Systainer, the current model comes in a TLOC.

I believe [member=44099]Cheese[/member] may have called this one on more than one occasion.

Is the scraper attachment any good or better than an oscillating tool with a scraper.

I have the sander and it is outstanding. Nothing like it available by anyone else.

I'll add that if railings or other non-flat surfaces are something you do then you need this sander.

I've used the scraper to remove tile mastic from a bathroom. It worked pretty good, I'd use it again. Between the LS scraper blade, a Fein and a standard putty knife the mission was accomplished. It all depends upon how tenacious the mastic is and how fragile the underlying plaster base is. The LS scraper will remove a 2x-3x wider swath than the other two methods.

It is one of those tools that you do not need all the time - but when you need it, you need it. Not the most aggressive sander out there, but works very well at its intended purpose and it is flexible in the various profiles it can sand.

Any thoughts if they are making a cordless version of this?

[member=64217]DashZero[/member] No indication that any replacement model is in the works, including a cordless alternative. And, as far as I know, this is only affecting the US/Canada. The LS 130 will remain an offering in other parts of the world. But maybe one of our European FOG friends can confirm.

Already dropped from the 2022 catalogue and off etailers in Europe. There was a thread about this early in the year I believe.

US was having some stock still, I presume.

I'm interested in this sander, mostly for its ability to sand against a perpendicular surface without damaging it. I did see a still somewhere where they were using the sander to sand molding against a window. If it wouldn't scratch the glass, that would be impressive.

But, in watching videos on it, I came across this segment from Sedge:=1297

In it, he's using the sander to create a DIY profile.  BUT - keep watching, he gives a tip to remove the DIY pad from the sander and run the DIY pad over the paper by hand instead!  "It's a little bit faster." "You have better control."

So, it seems like the sander isn't as good as hand sanding. I guess I'm going to save my money, but anyone who loves their LS 130, please chime up.

A task specific sander that has limited use, but it great at what it does. I do not use it frequently, but also would never let it go.

+1 If you can get one do!

Incredibly useful for what it's good at, bit of a surprise it's discontinued, but in OZ the BS105 belt sander appears to have also gone the way of the Dodo, so go figure!

Is this really a thing this sander can do:

Without scratching the glass?

Yes

No, I'd certainly not risk the chance because a few additional strips of masking tape will allay your fears.

Sad to see truly innovative tools like this go. I've done my fair share of hand sanding with a vacuum close by. The ls150 speeds this up considerably and has no equal for sanding edges, especially end grain. Really a pleasure to use.

The ergonomics of it were great too, very nicely designed sander to use for long periods without tiring!

For the final sanding pass before stain/oil/finish on hardwoods, I've always done it by hand, with the grain - as Stumpy Nubs says here:=715

Would the LS130 be a suitable replacement for that, since it's a linear sander?

I bought the LS130 and a selection of paper for a specific project a few years ago.  I only needed the flat pad for that, so I didn't pay much attention to the other pad shapes, since they are on the expensive side.

With the news that it is being discontinued I just splurged on a selection of pads - I will be doing some handrails and similar shapes at some point, and it seems like the pads are a distinctive feature of this sander, so better to get while the getting is good.

Agreed a cordless version (that takes the same pads and paper) would be very handy.

Absolutely!

I've used this sander with the concave sanding pads on table edges, it works well and much faster than hand sanding.

The foam does disintegrate over time so keep them in a cool dark environment to prolong their life.
