festool mft fence clamp quick question

what is the o-ring (part 88) for in the parts diagram? i don't have on mine and wondering what i am missing?

to act as a stopper on the nut to keep the threaded assembly from falling apart?

i checked, the o-ring is tool large to fit in the slot where the thread of the knob goes.

also wondering why in the diagram they have the o-ring in a vertical orientation.

Possibly they use it as a spring to push down the bottom claping part.
