I have next to my desk some cool, lighted levels made by Stabila for Festool. They are the Festool version of the 48" "The Lights" level by Stabila and they're cooler than the regular version. The frames are continuous across the vial area and they are graduated in metric and Imperial. They also look sleek in their Festool blue and green.

I also have a bunch of Drill LED's that double as headlamps.

Then there's the Folding Ruler, graduated in metric and Imperial on both sides. It's 2 meters long. Stabila makes the nicest folding rulers I've seen and this one is made for Festool by Stabila.

All of the above are available in limited quantities starting the first of November. We are taking orders now for shipment November 2nd, which is a Monday.

The November offerings are now available.

I had a chance to use the drill light over the weekend except I used it as a headlamp. I had to pull some 3-conductor #6 through about half of my attic to power a stove. The house was built to only have gas stoves. Anyway, I used the new LED as a headlamp and it was quite nice. It lit my path very well and lit the spot where I drilled through the top plate nicely. It's slicker than I originally realized. It can either be pointed straight ahead or straight down. There are also two intermediate detents in the pivot, that appear to be at 30 & 60 degrees.

My Honey saw that it pivots and now she wants one as a reading light...

Tom, I have a pretty good idea how it attaches to the head. ;) but how does the light mount to the drill, you have pictures? I'm not a gadget kind of guy but this LED looks cool.

Here are some pix...

You can have it on top or under the chuck. It goes behind the FastFix chucks.

It looks like the led runs on a ( or couple of)  AA batteries, is that correct?  Also, any idea on run time?  Does it have an auto shut off to help conserve battery power?  Sorry for all the questions, I haven't had a chance to see them yet, but I think a couple are in my near future.

Thanks, Dan

Dan:

No auto shut off, just a couple of on/off buttons - one on each side. It runs on a single AAA. I don't know about run time. I haven't run it down yet. I think I probably had it on for 1 or 2 hours over two days. We'll see how long it lasts, no sign of degradation yet.

I compared it to what I think to be a comparable Streamlight headlamp and the Streamlight says it runs 6-24 hours on 2 similar cells.

The led flashlight was at the training class.  I had posted in another thread the life of the batteries and shane confirmed that my memory was accurate.  I have deleted his message, but I am pretty sure that the life - in real life testing by Rick Bush - was in excess of 3 24 hour days continuously on.

Dan was cutting up in class that day. [poke] [poke]

Well now, doesn't the class clown have egg on HIS face!  I had completely forgotten that the led lights were at the class until you mentioned Rick talking about leaving it on for 2-3 days.

Thanks Peter, for the reminder ( and taking better notes than me)  And thanks to Tom for the reply.

I was wrong.  Not about Dan playing around in class that day but rather about the battery life.  Rick Bush carried it around to see what the battery life was.  It was over 5 days on continuously.  Talk about job dedication.   [eek]

Peter

Yes, 5 days continuously.  And, it's "AAA" batteries.  It attaches to the drill using the FastFix ring.

Dan,

It was the first MFT / 3.  The one with the t-15 and the auger bit.  They brought out the *akita drill with the built in led as a comparison and showed how much brighter it was than the *akita.  Then they threw the blue drill in the trash can afterwards.

Don't ask me what I had for breakfast today.  I don't remember.

I took very few notes.  I wanted to use up as few pages on my Festool Commemorative Notepad.  Planning to sell it one day on Ebay.  I hear they pay pretty well for Festool items.  I also stopped using the Festool pen.  Have plans for that also.

Yeah, remember Rick took it on vacation with him and got annoyed with how bright and how long the light lasted before the battery died.

Maybe it wasn't Rick that was annoyed, I think it might have been his wife!!

She did complain about it keeping her awake all night.  The good thing was he did not have to turn on the bathroom light in the middle of the night.
