Festool OF 2000 router

I have a chance to purchase the Festool OF 2000 router for $400 US.  I know that this router has been discontinued for a while.  The ID tag with the serial number and manufacture date is missing.  Owner claims he only used for a few small projects but is not the original owner.  Says it runs well with no known defects.  In its prime was this a good quality router before they went to the 2200?  Just wondering out loud if the same $400 would be better spent on a new 1400.

Those labels don't just fall off like the splinter guard on a track.

I'd be very wary of anything where the ID label had been removed, and I'd suspect it had been stolen.  If it had a systainer where the label was present I might be more forgiving, but I'm not sure that label has enough information to track it back and check its status.

If there was no Systainer with it, then it was probably purchased on close out for $350. I have one, and like it. Bought it for router table use, as the screw design is fairly easy to adjust.

Was thinking the same thing - that router cost about $400 when new.

Now it's used, and possibly............ It's not a collector's item so no way it's worth 400.

If you really need a 3 h.p. router you can find a new Porter Cable or Freud or Triton for around $400.  If you don't need that kind of huge capability the 1400 is a really good choice for an all rounder.

It's a great router...I think it was made by Mafell for Festool.  I actually sold my 1400 and bought three of the OF2000 as they were being discontinued.  Having said that, $400 is way too high for a used model, unless it comes with the Systainer and many extra accessories (which are expensive and can be hard to find).

Thank you all for your input.  I have decided not to buy it and instead put the $400 toward a new 1400.
